Metropolitan Police helicopter launches on Twitter

The Metropolitan Police have launched a Twitter account to allow Londoners to find out what the force's helicopters are doing.

The account - @MPSinthesky - launched on Tuesday and had soon gathered 3,000 followers.

It is intended to keep the public informed about the helicopter' s role in vehicle pursuits, catching burglars and tracking armed suspects.

Police hope explaining the work of the helicopter will cut noise complaints.

Insp Phil Whitelaw, head of the Air Support Unit, said it was "a terrific way to use social media and keep Londoners informed" of the unit's work.

"The response so far has been very positive and I'm certain @MPSinthesky will play a vital role in helping Londoners understand why we were - or are - working in a particular area."

I hate to be a cynic, but can't imagine they'd ever give you a real honest picture of what they're doing.. lots of censorship, selective tweeting, etc.. Not sure I see the point in following mis-information.

I have been on twitter for about 6 months i think.
I started using it for competitions but started to realise that only certain people were winning.... those who suck up to the companies and those who RT so many times everyday.
So i now do the odd competition on there as i can't keep up with the ones who tweet all day.

I quite like to go on and have a nose now, its not as scary as i thought it was going to be :)

AIL however never reply to my tweets, clearly i am not cool enough :tongue1: :whistle:

Wow you're doing better than me.. I did set up an account but then didn't really know what else to do with it!! What do you tweet - I can't really think of anything interesting enough that other people would be interested in reading it :(

Oh i don't generally tweet anything cos i'm boring.
I do tweet companies/sites to ask questions, compliment them, moan at them, thank them (if and when i win) that kinda thing.
I still use Facebook loads more than Twitter.

Ahh I didn't realise you could just use it like that i.e. tweeting others rather than tweeting about yourself... maybe I should get into it a bit more :-?
