I've never been to Belgo's but it's always on the list when we're deciding where to go for a bite in London. Belgian beer, mussels, chips - what's not to like?

I always remember that they did an offer where you'd be charged a price for your meal depending on what time of day you turned up (I guess it was a way to get early diners in pre-theatre or something) - it was like £4 if you order by 4pm, £5 if you order by 5pm, etc, etc Do they still do this, or was that just a one-off?

Or was it that the offer never existed and I dreamt it? :-?

They do still do that, although I have a feeling it's only during the week. I love Belgo's, it's great winter food!

Whey-hey, great news! Thanks Leila.

OK, it's definitely the next place I'll go to for a meal out when I'm in central.

Aren't there a couple of different branches? Any preferences?

There's one in Chalk Farm, one in Covent Garden and I think Clapham... I've only been to the Chalk Farm one. It's usually very busy and the staff really know their stuff when it comes to beer!

I went to the Clapham one a while ago - it was all about fruit beers from what I can remember and less about the food... not necessarily a bad thing ;) :drink:

Had mussels for din-dins last night, as it goes.

Fry off a couple of shallots and garlic in butter, add half a bottle of cider, let it boil up, chuck in your mussels in the shells and wack the lid on for 2 mins to steam. Then add a couple of glugs of cream, seasoning and some chopped flat leaf parsley; give it a stir and serve.

Gobbled down with half a loaf of homemade soda bread and the rest of the cider.

I won't lie to you... it wasn't half bad! :tongue2: :tongue2:

The Dovetail in Clerkenwell is excellent for Belgian beer and the mussels are pretty swish.

I found that after taking advantage of the Belgo's lunchtime deals for years they started slipping - so much so that last time I visited I swore I wouldn't go back.

However, I do like the uniforms!!
