Hi! I went to see the other day "woman in black" ( brilliant!) and I could not believe ( my ears!)when I realised that there was a family behind me munching crisps during the performance! I would not mind them eating a sandwich but CRISPS! It got on my nerves instantly and I looked at them with angry eyes but they just became more cautious when eating those bloody crisps.eventually they stopped-the bag of crisps must have been emptied. It is unrespectful for the comedians and for the audience; personnally I don't go to the theatre everyday it is quite pricey.I had the same problem for a flamenco show during a guitarist solo.Looking back I was really surprised the first time I went to the cinema in England as well all these people munching and leaving the place in pigsty...
In a theatre it is even worse and I am just wondering if it would not been a good idea to the theatres to make sure food is not allowed during the show because apparently some people do not have any manners or they are a bit thick or maybe both..
Have you ever had the same experience?

I know exactly how you feel. I remember once during a concert at the Festival Hall a man shouting out from the balcony. Eventually someone shouted back for him to shut up. The whole audience applauded. Needless to say he didn't utter another word.

If I go to the theatre with my son and someone is munching or chatting during a performance he simply turns and says "would you please be quiet" must be the way he says it as it usually works. If you don't have any joy with that approach speak to one of the ushers. I've often seen them having a word and once saw a group of people ejected from the theatre for being very rowdy. Seems like some people don't know how to behave in the theatre, I've even heard mobile phones ringing and seen cameras flashing.
