Camden - is it a safe place to stay?

Hi there,

will be holidaying in London in late October and renting a place in Camden for the duration. Am a bit concerned with some of the reports over the internet about high crime statistics in Camden - is this true? I have children with me and wouldn't want to expose my family to any sort of danger. We are peace loving Asian Muslims and am also wondering whether the likes of us would attract any unwarranted attention etc.

Thanks.

Hello there.

I'm no expert on public safety but I have travelled a lot and I've lived in London for six years. I expect the high crime levels around Camden (which might include crimes to property?)are partly to do with the huge number of tourists who visit the lively market areas. It really is quite safe in London if you do not stand out so much as a tourist. It's common sense but don't wave your camera around or stand there with a big map looking lost. Keep your wallet in a safe place, don't leave bags over the back of chairs etc...etc....If you stick to the main streets in Camden you will be fine, and probably even more safe that you are with children. Don't worry too much, I'm sure you and your family will have a fantastic trip and you will possibly be surprised at how multi-cultural London is, and all the better for it.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday.

Angela :)

Dear Angela,

much thanks for the reply..will definitely keep your advice in mind. It will probably be dificult not to whip out the camera, as you got a very beautiful city and I intend to snap as much as I can. It is also the first trip to London for 2 of my kids and surely they would want loads of photos of them there!

Regards,
