What do I hate about London? lots of things, most of which have already been mentioned here, but particularly young upper middle class Londoners. It's the posh farts of this town who really get up my nose. They proliferate in inner city areas, turning streets and villages which were once nice and laid back into real estate extravaganzas. Frequently born and reared in greater London, they know little about the rest of England but habitually look down on it. They work in all the best companies and don't want to know you if you're not obviously one of them. I could go on, but I won't. Thankfully this exclusive and annoying bunch don't exist in a big way outside the capital, where I now live.

Yeah, once I had an interview in Moorgate and I needed directions (since I rarely visited the area). People refused to even acknowledge my existance in this dimension whatsoever. It was if, by not wearing some £500-750 suit, that I'm not on the same metaphysical level of existance as they are. It's a bit concerning, but nothing to really look at with hatred. People will be people, and some britains are notorious for their 'not in my backyard' mentality. I suppose that's what happens when you live on a little island all by yourself for so long - you get to the point that social classes actually means something on a larger scale than it should.

All In London
Hi there,

I came to London with the view that all of these people (young professionals) were complete idiots and wouldn't have the time for me and my polytechnic University degree. After meeting lots of these types I eventually worked out that it was my own prejudice that was causing the problem and not theirs. Coming from a working class background with a degree from a "new" University I felt like I had it all to prove but eventually worked out that nobody really gives a damn, if you're a decent/fun/friendly person people will like you and you'll get on - if you spend all your time worrying about what people think about you and that you're not good enough to fit in then you never will.

Just my 2 cents.

All the best,

Wonderful post!
Good and bad in every group. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the young upper middle class bunch, no more than the ones in the Chav brigade or the Guardianista "Oh, I am so cool" brigade. Individuals are individuals. People with a chip on their shoulder or a political (allbeit pseudo) agenda just find negativity because that is what they are looking for.

This is exactly what makes London a great place. I hate to use the old sound bites, but diversity is what makes London so strong and unique. We need the toffs, the chavs, the born and bred Londoners, the new arrivals, the punks, the blacks, the whites the colourful and the eccentric... All add their own influences, cultures, styles, skills and wealth and without them we wouldn't be where we are today, which is in a fine city with abundant wealth (material and cultural) and great opportunity.

You're being a bit harsh on people you don't know. Personally, I pretty much hate everyone I don't know when they're in a group of 5 or more people, but I have to grudgingly admit that on a personal level most people I have ever encountered are pretty sound.

how about crowded busses then empty busses as fares to high so off peak hardly used but normal times jam packed. as people at that time have no choice.

Um they're not used as much off peak because it's off peak. And it happens to be cheaper then.

Obviously they'll be busier during commuting hours. Still not nice being squeezed in under a stranger's armpit. Hence I commute by motorbike. Cheaper, quicker, nicer.
