ok so basically we know that the olympics are taking place in london (east) in the lower lea valley region in 2012 - do we have any one here on AIL that lives there or close too? What does everyone think about the idea of hosting the plympics there and of what they are doing in terms of development and new infrastructure?

Had a bit of a hunt around and found this on AIL
http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/life/index.php?fid=37 which gives some background. I'm starting to come around to the idea now and think it will be great for that area. I'm from the west, but still I'm sure that economic investment in the east will benefit all of London.

I'm not looking forward to it. Mostly because everything in London is going to get expensive so the government can rip off tourists, but it's also Londoners who are going to suffer, too. The fares and prices of things will go up, and when the olympics are over... I don't think they'll come back down again.

It make me saaaaaaaaaaaad

I didn't want the olympics & still don't want it.
It still annoys me that Londoners have to pay towards it.

I wish the somewhere else had got it.

I have no interest in the olympics at all, i'm never going to use the facilities nor live around there. I don't feel i will get any benefit from any of the things being built.

Come on guys that's not the attitude. The games will be great for London, I don't know about you but I think a couple of swimming pools and a cycling velodrome are well worth 9 billion pounds :confused2:

I've never been a huge fan of the Olympics and I don't really know what it's effect on London will be. All people I know who live in London seem to talk about is the opportunity to rent out their house/flat for £xxx, nobody's really talking about the cyclists hopes for more medals.

I don't see how it will be 'great for London'. london is a capital city, people will come here with or without the Olympics. I see it more inconveniencing Londoners more than anything. I don't see any benefit for me or anyone I know. In fact, it will proabably make my job harder.
