Lowen dydh sen Pyran! (Happy St. Piran’s Day!)

Now in its fifth year, Kernow In The City returns to the Rich Mix Arts Centre, Shoreditch in 2014 for a night of Cornish music, culture and language to celebrate St. Piran’s Day - Cornwall’s national day.

This year’s theme is Cornwall's native language Kernewek. This ancient and unique language was revived in the 20th Century and now has thousands of speakers across Cornwall and beyond.

Our headliners Dalla are the internationally acclaimed leading lights of Cornish traditional music and they sing in their native Cornish language.
‘Dalla’s performances are both inventive and enchanting, their music celebrates Cornish culture in an upbeat and infectious voice’ The Guardian

Louis Eliot is the former frontman of Rialto who scored three top 40 singles in the Britpop era. He now has an acclaimed solo career with his most recent album ‘Kittow’s Moor’ attracting 4-star reviews from some of the most-respected music magazines.
“winning blend of rustic charm and urban cool” **** Uncut
“he’s now welded the sound of barn-bound folk to that of pure pop” **** Mojo

A hit at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, casio-rappers Hedluv + Passman bring their songs about pasty etiquette and the challenges of swimming in the sea, with added extreme dance moves.
"dancing in the aisles funny" - Rhys Darby (Flight Of The Conchords)
"hilarious" - Alan Davies (QI)

Led by Cornishman Jake Calladine, Brighton-based group Woodland Blue kick off the night with their mixture of folky inspired melodies, experimental guitar sounds and grooving rhythms. Their new EP is produced by Kate Walsh’s producer Tim Bidwell.

Our bi-lingual (Cornish and English) comperes for the evening are comedy duo The Cornish Oafs who use the Cornish language in their act in order to give their comedy a unique edge and to educate audiences about this ancient language.

Proper Cornish pasties from www.thecornwallproject.co.uk and some of the region’s fine ales will be on sale at the event to make sure everyone gets a flavour of Kernow at its best.

We are also proud to support Invest in Cornwall and representatives from the organisation will be at the event with information on opportunities within the region.
