Not a great performance from the bar staff. First they tried to top up my beer from the slop bucket, then they left part of the beer tap in the second pint... Would avoid if possible

Looking for some reasonably priced entertainment to round off our day yomping around London on a family day out, I booked this venue on the strength of the reviews and we weren't disappointed. Friendly greeting, shown to our reserved seats - very home-spun and welcoming. Room was basic, chairs odd-bod but comfy enough. The acts (21st September)were SUPERB, couldn't fault any of them, totally entertained our family age range from 21-63. (Wouldn't recommend for young kids - adult humour). Compere was great, dealt nicely with irritating hecklers. Great value for a tenner - recommended!

I attended this venue on the 30th July for a song contest on the basement. Albeit the gig itself was well put together, the bar staff, specifically the guy working downstairs who seemed to spend more time in the back office than actually serving was just rude and full of self importance. Couple this with a general lack of hospitality and a shabby condition of the building, I would say that there are much better venues in the area who would be more than appreciative of your custom and hard earned cash.

What a find. Great night out... & I was a skeptic. Been to more expensive clubs on Leicester Sq where you can't even see the comics and it's bad light, sound and hen parties : ( but this was a world apart. A classy vibe, top comics and cool dancing after. Top choice for central London

I took my girlfriend to Piccadilly comedy and we nearly died laughing!
We came here a few years ago and it was a bit rough, but I'll definitely be going back soon. Highly recommended and well worth £10 of anyones money, especially if the Norwegian guy is on.

....... that is to continue the previous one (as i had no time to finish)
My friend fainted inside the pub. Her boyfriend stayed by her side and than a serciruty man picked her up and took her outside. I went to the bar and asked for a glass of water saying that my frien had faineted and that was received (by a slim blond Barmaid) with a great lough!!!! She repeated after me and sarcasticly asked me if i wanted a glass of water with or without ice!!!!! outrageous
I went outside to check on my friends and found one of the bouncers accusing my friend of giving drugs to his girlfriend and holding him by his neck pressed to the wall my partner try to help saying that he was her fiance and did not do anything wrong to her and this was received very agressivly both bouncers jumped on him putting him to the ground (he cracked his head) my friend got conscious and went home with her fiance.
Than i was not able to come back inside with my partner and was told to go away! When i asked for the names of that two bouncers who jumped on my fiance they were not able to pronounce them i guess because they just ignored us! i was told to call someone to bring my coat and bag (however my phone was inside)
I have never ever experienced such a treatment and poor customer service! Members of staff including manager need to be sent on an intensive customer service training before something else will go terribly wrong in that place!!!! they are not able to hold events like this in their pub! SHAME

reserved an area for GRAND HALLOWEEN 2011 (GRAND DISASTER) as it should be my Birthday Party! Everything was disorganized to the maximum! Staff very rude and manager very unhelpfull!they did not reserve my place and did not hear any apologies worst they just said that it was missunderstood! and that was it! got a small table istead by the door! later two bouncers assaulted my friend and we could not stay in anymore! very unproffesional and not qualified staff! very suprised and puzzeled after all the good reviews I read on this website:(((((( there was only one line for everybody i mean for those who booked the tickets in advance and those who did not have any! people gathering on the street trying to get in (while the pub was still not busy inside) and none from the STAFF by the door was able to take control of it! very disapointing!

Hired the private room for a party and was extremely pleased with the level of service and attention we received. Nothing was ever to much for the staff to do for us, they were all very polite, friendly and helpful. Food here was amazing; i had a party of 16 people and everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they had and had no complaints. It was brillaint value for money with large portions and great tasting food. Drinks are reasonably priced and the service at the bar was quick even though it was very busy on a saturday night. We enjoyed our time so much that night that me and my boyfriend returned the following afternoon for some lunch and again we received great service and the food once again was just as delightful as the previous night we were there. Its a very large pub that offers alot such as entertainment, sport and plently of room for dining with families, couples or friends.

I would definatly recommend this pub to everyone who wants amazing food, a good night out at brillaint value with helpful and friendly staff. I will be returning there. :)

Was at the "Love Candy Extravaganza" on Saturday the 4th Dec, Funky west pr hosting their most fun & friendly monthly party and had a really good night, There was 55 of us and we reserved a private area that was not expensive and very easy to do, the staff are great and the prices aren't outrageous, from what i remember it was like £3 / £4 a drink, only venue/bar open until 5am, 3 different floors with my favorite dj 279 from choice fm and the resident dj dansome was rokin the dance floor, there was a 5 live PA on the night. The cocktails were excellent and everyone had a great time. Taking an area is a great idea, made us feel very important. we had an amazing night,

After going to the event last month I would highly recommend the event to anyone wanting to have a good night in central London.

I'll def b there this Saturday again with my work lot to see dj 279 (choice fm) performing!

Went to the Comedy Pub last weekend for the first time in ages. Initially disappointed that the comedy show was from a different operator, but decided to try it anyway. I am soooooo pleased that I did. The staff at the pub are friendly and helpful, and this is only matched by the staff and acts at the comedy club. Where else can you go in the West End where the fun starts before you have paid your admission fee? I'm going back, and I am telling all my friends to try this place. Considering the location it has to be the best value night out in the area.

We went to the Comedy Pub for the first time last night and had a cracking evening. The pub was pleasant and the staff and organisers of the comedy event were very friendly and welcoming. The 3 comedians were very funny and it was a great atmosphere with alot of crowd banter.

I would definatley recommend this for a night out either with a group or with partner or friend. We will definatley be going back.

I'm not sure about the karaoke - some of that really was 'The Comedy' for the evening! Other than that, we had a brilliant time here watching the football - there was some great banter going on that never descended into anything naughty which was nice. The Comedy is perfect for football fans but not so perfect if you can't abide karaoke, like me. Why don't they just shutup?

went for the comedy night and had a good evening. Don't be put off by the look of the place, remember it is called the comedy PUB. And that's exactly what it is. Food is dirt cheap and satisfying (2-4 £9) on most things) and there's a real friendly atmosphere. Comedy was great, 3 good acts. We paid £15 and I felt it was worth it. Makes a change to a club.

This used to be a great pub. I was in there a couple days ago to watch the rugby. 1 person behind the bar for a match like that? The fact that I had to wait 15 minutes for a pint during half-time and still didn't get back to the match before the second half started... I tried going upstairs to get a pint and the bar there was just as busy. Seemingly only 2 people working on a Saturday afternoon; during an England rugby match? In Central London, at a place that boasts having a "Sports Lounge"? Never used to be like that. What's happened?

I have had many of the best night this year in this pub!

The service is great! Some of the best sevice i've ever had, and enjoyed the comedy too! That is until the comedian who was good, but thought he was god and came on to me! Hahahahaha....... It was the best laugh of the night! Mr Velvet jacket, I'm glade that you think that your charming off the stage because I think you should re-evaluate your perception of yourself!

My issues aside, I enjoy the atmosphere, and there is always something going on..whether it's a live band, the comedy or good conversation with friendly people.

Thanks Raul, you most definatly have made me feel welcome!

We just had our Christmas party there, 2nd year running. As with last year, the comedy show was brilliant, nightclub was fun too. However, unlike last year, the service this year was abysmal, we had to wait ages for drinks all through the night. The prices have also gone through the roof. The final straw was that most of the draught beers were off and a complaint to the manager, unbelievable, got an angry reply.

Go for the comedy try and drink elsewhere would be my tip.

I’m an avid comedy goer and have seen comedy in all sorts of venues from local scruffy bars to large national venues. This place certainly fits into the scruffy category and I really would expect a little more from a pub in a West End location.

I’ve been there twice recently with my husband and some friends and despite the dubious charms of the pub we laughed ourselves silly on both occasions. Sickeningly hilarious! Great line-ups both times. So, yes, we would go back – but only for the weekend comedy bills.

When you get through the stench of the entrance….(is it the stinking bins…or is it the pong coming from the basement where the accumulated debris of many drunken guts has been deposited?) you arrive in what surely must be in the running for the accolade of ‘most depressing pub in central London’.

Picture it: dirty magnolia paint; peeling wallpaper; filthy fittings; lack of atmosphere; some, though not all, fairly charmless staff.

On our first visit, wanting to extend our humour, we hung about afterwards for a few drinks. This is when the strength of our good humour was tested to the limit. One would have thought that an essential prerequisite of any service industry would be an ability to interact pleasantly with customers. Well, here at The Comedy, if you are unlucky in the queue at the bar, you might well be served by the stuck-up barmaid who would be better placed in a role at the London Dungeon serving up blood she’d sucked from a hapless victim the night before.
Who is managing the place? Is it Count Dracula?
As it was, it wasn’t cold blood she gave us, it was warm beer.

Nevertheless, other staff were pleasant and we thoroughly enjoyed both comedy nights.

We found this pub after looking for a quiet place to have a drink before meeting our friends later on. We ended up staying all night and invited all our friends to meet us here rather than at one of the larger, chain bars.
We all enjoyed ourselves and will defiantly be coming back for the comedy.

Well Hello to all u pub goers, london that is...

I just read the review about the manager being great and introducing new specials and so on,,, yes good, there were specials before he arrived though so sorry to burst your bubble..., sorry to say... but the only thing i can think of is someone writing this that works there, i personally feel that we all should find out the names of these people that are rude and uprupt... if not only one person as i have encountered a few times... trust me i still like the pub, i just wont be going there as much as i would like..

Its a real shame though,,,, plain and simple pub, really good atmosphere though....

went there last week and it just happened that i got served by the same member of staff,, girl i might add,, real snobby.... i work for a marketing firm,,, i know all about product sales and so on,,, obviously you the comedy are not just trying to sell the stock but also the pub and the company to bring in more customers and to create a better image of the company... i do say that action has to be taken, otherwise there will be no future for this pub,,,

bring bac the old manager and all the old staff, not to mention sum of the staff working there currently, which i reckon should stay...

so to whoever gets to read this, i hope action will be taken not just for me the client but also for the sake of your company,,,

your friendly regular as it were...

I agree with the last post. I have been going to The Comedy for the last 3 years. I liked it because I would come in, the bar staff knew my name, I knew theirs, we'd have a laugh. It was great. The management (Steve and David, to be specific) were extremely hospitable, and had trained their staff well.
The Comedy is not like that any more. I appreciate that management changes. It changes for the better or it changes for the worse. This is the epitomy of change for the worst. The nice decor, cold beer, the ability to manage the televisions so that they properly show a football match, and the friendly and experienced bar staff are all gone. Now there is an under-staffed bar, warm pints, mis-managed televisions, and obnoxious and rude bar staff (with the exception of and apologies to the two girls who have survived these changes - bless them).
I don't complain, because I don't ask for much. Pint of Kronenbourg. That's what I have ordered for the last 3 years. The "Old Comedy" staff were so well aware of this that my pint was poured and waiting for me from the moment I walked in the door. THAT is customer service and well beyond. That is why I continued to come in. This doesn't happen under the new so-called management.
One night I ordered my pint and it was flat. It tasted poor. I complained - for the first time ever (I never had cause to complain before). The girl behind the bar refused to serve me a proper pint. She beckoned the so-called manager over. He tried to tell me that there was nothing wrong with the beer - it was visibly flat. He argued with me. Argued? Whatever happened to "the customer is always right"? I don't ask for much. I have a pint of Kronenbourg every day that I come in.
I used to enjoy going in to The Comedy. Quite a bit. It was a great pub. It's a shame, really. I go to the Tom Cribb now.

When I heard there was a forum for me to voice my opinion, I had to drop in my 2 pence. I work close to this establishment and its been a regular hang out of mine and a few work-mates for a long time. Since the new management things have changed, not all for the good though. To the point where my friends and I no longer feel the need to support it. We have not always been treated well recently so I would like to know where all those "friendly staff" are. There are a good "few" staff members certainly not "all" of them. So what if it was a disgruntled ex staff member that voiced their opinion, they have the right?(free country and all that), that type of thing never happened before, there was always a good sense of team work, sorry to say but that does not seem to exsist anymore
Where are the good old days when your regulars were treated like family and not like outsiders trying to get into an exclusive club
For the sake of a good pub I hope it will all get sorted

I have been an infrequent but regular visitor to this pub for many years. But, following my last couple of visits, I wont be returning.

The service has gone gone from friendly and fast to appalling. Apart from the tedious bar service, I've also waited 45 minutes for food that then arrived cold and was given short shrift when I complained.

This place used to be very good, now extremely poor.

I tend to agree with the second reviewer. This was a regular haunt for me and my mates but I was there with friends a few weeks ago for the football. My mate ordered a pint which was off, he told the guy who served him who took a sip and said he didn't think so. My mate asked to see the manager only to be told that the bloke serving was the manager. Whatever happened to the customer is right? Needless to say we all left shortly afterward and won't be going back, we had a far better time at Wetherspoon moon under the water in Leicester Square and that's not saying much!!
This forum says be constructive, well, what happened to all the nice people that worked there??! Bring em back!!

I have just seen the comments from an anonymous person, I can't believe the comments other than them being aimed directly at the new manager (some disgruntled ex employee I suppose) well I am a regular here and I can honestly say that the pub is in GREAT HANDS. the new man has has brought this place alive and all the new staff are FANTASTIC & VERY HELPFUL. I have found the manager to be very good with high standards, he has also introduced some fantastic offers (this is the first time REAL OFFERS have been at the Comedy in years)like double vodka & red bull, 2 cocktails, the food specials are outstanding, ALL THIS & IN PICCADILLY TOO.........

I'M OFF TO THE COMEDY LATER, SEE YOU THERE AS I'LL BE THE GUY ENJOYING MYSELF IN THIS FANTASTIC PUB...

I have been a regular at the pub for three years now, it used to be a fantastic place before, however since it has been undertaken by new management, the ambiance has been sucked out of the place, bar staff are obnoxious and rude. It is really a shame as that used to be my friends and my watering hole. They say that change is good, however if that change is for the worst, then we all have to take a second look at who is running the place as it it is he or she that has to keep on par.

Please bring back the old Comedy

Pretty bog-standard pub, but it was really good to find a pub in central London that wasn't rammed on a Friday lunchtime. They have a full pub food menu (pretty basic but does the job) which is reasonably priced and there were plenty of seats to choose from both times when we went.
Have your say
