Terrible shop. I echo previous reviewer's experience. I had problems that the fire did not fit the fireplace and they didn't want to know. Staff were also very rude. Avoid this place.

We have been looking for a fireplace for ages and could not find anything we liked. My friend recommend that I went to Better Hearth. They have a fantastic selection and really know their stuff! We ended up with a shortlist of 3 and after much deliberation and advice from the shop owner we finally have a fireplace that we are delighted with. The shop is family run and this is really evident in the service that you receive. I would definitely recommend them for selection, customer service and price.

There is nothing positive to say about this fireplace shop. The owner was very rude and showed very little reluctance to explain his different products and in particular demonstrated no patience in answering our queries. The attitude of the owner (an English gentleman) was shocking and given his poor customer service before a purchase I would not feel confident in purchasing anything from his store especially at the ridiculously high prices he was quoting. For quality customer service and more competitive prices head to Acquisitions in Kentish Town or Jean Barrie in Enfield, you will be treated much better there that is for sure.

I have recently purchased a carrera marble fireplce including slate hearth and slips from 'The better Hearth'. I received excellent advice from the staff, including Mike the fitter who was very helpful in advising the correct fireplace for the period of the property. I understand the firelace was actually made in the UK (unusual these days) from Italian marble and is very high quality with perfect proportions and finely carved corbels. The fitting was expertly done, starting early and completed within one day, with absolutely no fuss or mess. Areas were replastered where necessary. Additionally the old fireplace was removed and taken away. Highly recommended with a friendly, non pushy customer service approach.

Very polite and helpful with good knowledge of the local housing, what would be appropriate for a Victorian terrace, but no sales pitch, no pushiness. Just lovely. From making a decision to having the fireplace installed an fitted it was under a week - they came and visited before I left for work. All very reasonable in price and comparable to other places nearby. It involved having the chimney swept, and a prior visit from the fitter then he came early before I left for work and got it done in a day and even left no mess. Communication easy and always very polite.
Very happy I chose to go here.

After visiting numerous fireplace shops, I went for the this one because I had been recommended by a friend in Islington who had used them twice. They have a big showroom so I had quite a choice - took me a while to decide - 3 visits! My new fireplace looks lovely and stylish and I was very happy with the lack of mess at fitting (which I was dreading)- highly recommended!

I chose the shop because they were specialised in fireplaces and because they said they had many years of experience. My fireplace inc. installation was approx 2,000 pounds, so not a cheap model.
They installed the fireplace (which looked great!). And then the problems started...

I had to leave immediately afterwards and was not home for months. It turned out that they had left all rubbish from the installation outside blocking the drainage of my flat. The drains then flooded and I had leaks into my ceiling and my living room. It also turned out that they had removed the top of my chimney, but had forgotten to tell me that this meant that the whole completely new fireplace would rust....

They have so far refused to even come and look at the damage and the rusted fireplace. I have called them numerous times, and last time they even hung up on me.

They refuse to pay for the damage to my ceiling in the living room, and they refuse to replace the fireplace (although it is completely rusted).

Go somewhere else where you can trust the service when it goes wrong!
