Belgo is a chain of restaurants with a Belgian influence serving over 20 different brands of beer as well as mussels and chips with regular special offers. You are advised to book well in advance. Frites were cold and moules weren't big on flavour. OK, so it was nearly the end of the night - but it's not like you get a discount if the food isn't up to snuff.

What a shame!
I absolutely love moules and frites (and Belgian beer!) but I was really disappointed at my visit to Belgos.
Of all the moules I've ever eaten, the ones I had at Belgos had to rank right down there with the worst I've eaten - and this from a place which specialises in them. I had moules in a creamy sauce - but it was very insipid and under-seasoned. Plus the chips were limp and cold... just like ones you get in a bad canteen!
On the plus-side, the venue is cool - a kind of industrial cave with long communal benches. Plus the beer was good. :)

This place is quirky. We were surprised to find that it was downstairs, underground, with no daylight. The tables are basic, the seating are benches, so you might find you are sharing a (large) table with another couple. Plenty of room though. The menu is quite simple, and their specialty is in mussels. The food is tasty and plentiful. The deserts are also generous and very tasty.The real pull for me though is with their selection of delicious Belgian beers, on tap and in bottles. The bottled beers come with their own specific glasses. One glass looks like a mini yard of ale in a wooden frame for a handle. The atmosphere was great and very lively. We got there quite early and felt lucky to be seated. After we finished our meal and we left, there were about 100 people upstairs waiting to be seated. There is a bar upstairs that was empty when we went in but packed when we left. Naturally, this bar was also selling the Belgian beers. We will definitely be revisiting and next time I will leave the car at home so that I can sample more varieties of beer.

Belgos is definatly the place to go for a a fantasic meal,
the express lunch is a good option costing you £7.50 for a main course (i recomend the spit roasted chicken with chill) you aklso get a glass of beer or wine with that,
Its a got a lovely atmosphere, you can also see the chef cooking the food,
only negative is that teh stadff are really slow

If you fancy a fun outing, like mussels, frites and strong beer, this is the place to go. The waiters all have some off the wall sense of humour, the decor is eccentric and monastic (and so are the waiters in appearance). So the service is amusing. The place is usually heaving with people so BOOK and be prepared to wait to be seated. We have been several times now and we never tire of the new things to try on the menu. Their varieties of ways to cook mussels, even spicy ones are very yummy. The fruit beers are good to try and the deserts are also worth saving some room for. it is hard to save any room though. Leave the diet at home, and come here with patience and an open mind. :)

We've been to Belgo a few times now, usually drifting there for brunch after wandering around Covent Garden on a lazy Sunday afternoon, hungry and tired after a heavy Saturday night. We've never booked in advance and have not had problems getting a table although we did notice that the place fills up very quickly from 1.30-2pm, despite its vast size. The food has always been good, although sausage and mash (or stoemp) is hard to get wrong. Highly recommend the grilled mussels with butter and pernod. This is an ideal place to relax and recover with comfort food like frites and mayonaise, sausage and stoemp, and a range of (often high-strength) European beers and ales. Good service, no fuss
