All In London Review
Mela offers highly accomplished cooking
The tiger prawns are succulent and pillow-soft, marinated in saffron, caraway seeds and coriander, in a delicious, moderately spicy sauce made with tomatoes, onions and peppers that are still a little crunchy. An unusual dish of lamb’s liver with hand-ground mince is outstanding, the offaly taste of liver marrying fresh coriander, ginger and garlic – this is highly accomplished cooking.
Other things we really like are a black lentil daal, a supremely fluffy peshwari naan, and the cubes of paneer in a mild, creamy sauce.
Prices are friendly, with starters averaging £5-£7 and main courses costing between £10-£14, and so are the staff (we are frozen stiff when we arrive due to a particularly Arctic-like wind, a pot of hot water soon appears for us to warm our hands up). Main thoroughfares like Shaftesbury Avenue often don’t lend themselves to quality restaurants, but this 200-cover eatery, now over a decade old, is the exception that proves the rule.

Our favourite London restaurants with good wheelchair access
Here's our list to the best restaurants with disabled access in London.
This West End eatery has remained popular for over a decade, thanks to tasty Indian food and modest prices. They welcome guide dogs, there are disabled toilets, and both assisted and non-assisted wheelchair access is possible.
The best places to eat healthily in London
Tasty, healthy goodness is just a recommendation away...
Mela keep the fat and oil content in their dishes to a minimum. Rather than focus on a specific region, the menu features dishes from all over India, with more unusual treats like lobster pepper fry curry and potatoes stuffed with cashew nuts and cooked in the tandoor oven.
