From 6th to 12th August the Royal Air Force Museum is turning our helipad back to the land with a small farm of animals that members of the public were encouraged to keep to help with the war effort during the Second World War.

Animals on display will include chickens, rabbits, sheep, goats, ferrets and a pony.

People were encouraged to keep chickens for fresh eggs, goats for fresh milk, ponies to help with trips, at a time when cars were rare and petrol rationed only for necessities, ferrets to help with the hunting of pests and rabbits for their fur and meat.

These animals will be on display each day from 10.00 am to 5.30pm in a marquee courtesy of Surrey Docks Farms with our younger visitors welcome to ask questions about their care and upkeep whilst interacting with the animals under the supervision of members of the Farm.
