The award has been designed to produce one comprehensive rating, which combines numerous leading restaurant guidebooks along with a blend of the most respected industry and newspaper awards. The different ratings, awards and tables are weighted to produce a normalised score out of ten. The outcome is an easy to digest, conclusive Ultimate Restaurant List of London’s top 100 restaurants.

Marcus Wareing’s modern, theatrical take on classic French cuisine has won him international acclaim and two Michelin stars. After working as Chef Patron of Pétrus for 9 years he now runs the restaurant under his own name as Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley.

Marcus puts the win down to his continual drive to innovate, using new ingredients, developing new menus and working closely with a range of interesting suppliers. His commitment to being in the kitchen at Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley also has a large part to play in the win. He is one of the few chefs who remains true to his word and is still at the hotplate, believing that if your name is above the door, then you should be in the kitchen cooking. The Michelin-starred chef also gives a great deal of credit to the team behind him and says he has been “working with a team of dedicated and loyal staff, all of whom work tirelessly to innovative and continually improve on all aspects – from the kitchen through to service.”

On receiving the award the chef commented: "I am thrilled to be the recipient of this award. London is full of great restaurants with amazing chefs behind them and I am delighted that our hard work at Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley has put us at the top."

Second place in the Ultimate London Restaurant List has been picked up by Notting Hill restaurant The Ledbury and third place by Mayfair’s The Square. The rest of the Top 10 places are occupied by recognised names such as Gordon Ramsay, Alain Ducasse and Tom Aikens.
