South Kensington restaurant Daphne’s launched a competition to foster emerging talent in the gardening world. Working in collaboration with the English Gardening School, Daphne’s asked graduate designers to create a stunning, original indoor garden in the midst of the restaurant.

The impressive winning submission was a joint collaboration by Manoj Malde and Amy Roberts. Both designers began their careers in the fashion world but have now turned their finely-tuned creativity to gardening. Affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society, the English Gardening School has trained many of today’s leading garden designers, horticulturists, plantsmen and celebrities.

Daphne’s has decided to extend the British gardening experience to all by keeping the specially designed garden in situ until 3rd June. It is a unique opportunity to dine within a bespoke garden and is the ideal space to experience the hottest garden design away from those seen at the Flower Show.

Drawing inspiration from the seasonal Italian menu and airy dining room at Daphne’s, the garden, designed to create an al fresco dining experience, is planted throughout the restaurant. The elegant facade is highlighted with fresh white pelargoniums and finely cut ivy trailing from topiary cones and spheres above. At street level, trees support climbing roses and clematis, framing the windows through to the central dining room and into the conservatory. Immaculate and crisp table linen is adorned with Amalfi lemons and set off by a grass lawn under the tables, evocative of the formal layout of classic renaissance gardens.
