The Head of the River Race

WHERE: Along the river from Mortlake to Putney
The Head of the River Race is rowed annually in March from Mortlake to Putney on the Tideway in London. Over 400 crews of eights take part, making it one of the highest participation events in London.

Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race (160th)

WHERE: River Thames between Mortlake and Putney
The world famous sporting event between Oxford and Cambridge was first held in 1829. The 4¼ mile Thames course from Putney to Mortlake is over three times as long as the Olympic course. Enjoy the festival atmosphere of the Boat Race by watching for free from one of the many vantage points along the course. You should be able to find a place to watch on either side of the river along the full length of the course, but particular areas to note are: Putney Bridge, Putney Embankment and Bishops Park (at the start); Hammersmith and Barnes (mid-course); Dukes Meadows and Chiswick Bridge (at the finish).

The UK’s biggest outdoor horse show introduces new format and layout, and for the first time ever opens its doors to the public for free. Already the UK’s largest outdoor horse show, Royal Windsor is reintroducing International Dressage and Show Jumping to its schedule after a four year absence and has increased prize money to over quarter of a million pounds. What’s more, on the first day – which will be known as ‘Windsor Wednesday’ – the showground will throw open its gates to all visitors completely free of charge.
