They’re selling artisan world foods, they’re selling records; they’re selling vintage underwear: you name it and East London’s new markets have probably got it. As people aim to source, create and promote their own products the market scene in East London has grown from strength to strength. And as London expands, its market areas disperse, which means you can find record fairs in Forest Gate, world food stalls in Wood Green and knick knacks piled high in Hackney. Here are some of East London’s new and up-and-coming markets.

Myddleton Road Market
So new it is yet to launch (inside at least). Myddleton Road Indoor Market in Bowe Park, Wood Green is set to commence trading on Saturday 26th April when it floods the Tabernacle of David hall with an eclectic array of stalls. Currently expected to run alongside the outdoor street market, the aim is to display the creativity and talent present in the local Wood Green community. Expect anything from gourmet street food to vintage, bric-a-brac to jewellery from 10am till 4pm. Visit the Myddleton Road Market website for future market dates.

Village Green Market
Hackney Downs makes for a sweet spot for this market-cum-Sunday hangout event. With space both inside and out, there is fun to be had rain or shine. Get educated in the art of bike repair (or scrap it and hunt for a new bike) with the Hackney Peddler, grab a bite at one of the many food stalls, sink a cocktail or two from the bar, watch an independent movie and explore the world of craft and creativity that you’ll find. Open every Sunday at The Village Green on Amherst Terrace.

Hackney Flea Market
Stoke Newington has its fair share of independent shops selling all manner of crafty products so the Hackney Flea Market has found a good home on Stoke Newington Road. Based in a hall, Hackney Flea Market is made up of a handpicked group of stalls selling anything from handmade craft to couture. Stalls are swapped out for new ones every few months so there is always something different on the horizon. Held one weekend a month on both Saturdays and Sundays.

Dig a little Record Fair
Who doesn’t like digging in dusty old record shops for vinyl? But isn’t it better when you can get a drink while you do it? We believe it is, which is why we’re all for the Dig a Little Record Fair at The Forest Tavern in Forest Gate. Hosted on the first Saturday of every month, DJs play during the day and you can buy, sell and trade new and old vinyl.

Dusty Fingers Market
Fashion, jewellery, knick-knacks, homeware, antiques and assorted vintage fill the Round Chapel Auditorium on Glenarm Road once a month for the Dusty Fingers Market. Once held as a night market, it has now shifted to Sunday daytimes. Along with all the stalls you will also find tea and cake to keep you going. £1 admission.
