Guilty plea entered over Cruise photos

After a lengthy battle, the man accused of trying to obtain $1 million from Tom Cruise after he stole photos of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding in Italy has agreed to plead guilty. The couple, who got married in November 2006 had their pictures stolen which they said would compromise the deals that they had made with magazines to cover their wedding.

David Hans Schmidt who admitted to stealing the photos with a view to extortion could now face up to two years in jail. David is now released on bail and after admitting guilt is awaiting a court date for sentencing. His co-conspirator Marc Gittleman has also admitted guilt and could face up to five years in jail.

After receiving the photos David contacted the relevant representatives of Tom Cruise saying that they would sell the photographs if they did not receive upwards of $1.25 million to keep the photos under wrap.
