It began life as the Millennium Dome, a project lauded by then Prime Minister Tony Blair that turned out to be a disaster. After losing lots of money by remaining empty for several years, it was renamed the O2 in 2005 and turned into an entertainment centre with live music venues, a cinema, bars and restaurants. As the O2 it’s been far more successful than the Millennium Dome ever was: the O2 Arena has a capacity for 20,000 people and rivals Wembley Stadium for the big names, while the smaller Indigo at the O2 frequently sells out and hosts famous comedians as well as bands. More recently a branch of the New York bowling alley Brooklyn Bowl opened, which also hosts live bands and has a restaurant serving southern food.
