| About Old Truman Brewery: | This East End arts quarter hosts exhibitions, club nights, clothing outlet sales, fashion shows and craft fairs. It’s also home to hip fashion stores G-Shock and Number 6, record shop Rough Trade, the mouthwatering Sunday Upmarket and as well as The Big Chill bar, Café 1001 and All Star Lanes bowling alley, while 93 Feet East has gigs and club nights, as well as Sunday’s daytime playground Fuse. The arts are heavily supported; Fashion East, which takes place here during London Fashion Week champions unknown, up and coming designers, while Free Range gives visual arts graduates the opportunity to showcase their work. The origins of the Old Truman Brewery date back to the 18th century when it was indeed London’s largest brewery, employing over 1,000 people. It was successful until the 1970s, eventually closing down in 1988. A private company took care of redevelopment and the site now contains around 250 different businesses, attracting local hipsters and tourists in their droves. Additionally, the former brewery building’s alleys and warehouse-style spaces are often favoured by stylists for photoshoots - keep your eyes peeled for a top model. |
