About Orange Tree Theatre:This is a truly intimate theatre with a capacity for only 175 people; there are no blind spots, there is no difference in price for seats and everyone gets to see the action up close. When the Orange Tree Theatre first opened in 1971, it was situated in the upstairs of a pub near Richmond station. It proved to be a popular addition to the area, and it wasn’t long before lunchtime performances had to be repeated to accommodate numbers. In 1991 the theatre moved to its current location, a former school just across the road. The theatre has hosted award winning plays by Auriol Smith and Geoffrey Beevers, produced works by Vaclav Havel and involved itself with local schools by staging Shakespeare productions for 6 to 18 year olds. Its conscientious programming and cosy size have made this one of the most respected theatres in London outside of the West End.
