Incredibly popular with the City’s professionals, Clerkenwell is in the ever popular London Borough of Islington. Clerkenwell’s popularity is primarily due to its central location surrounded by Bloomsbury, St Pancras, Holborn, King’s Cross and Smithfield.
During the population boom of the seventeenth century, Clerkenwell was a fashionable location frequented by many of the rich and famous including Oliver Cromwell. The Industrial Revolution made a big difference to Clerkenwell and it became a booming area for breweries, printing and the manufacture of clocks and watches.
More recently, Clerkenwell went through a decline following World War Two, but has recently seen a huge revival and is now extremely popular with professionals attracted by the array of art galleries, restaurants and night clubs. |
