About Clerkenwell
During the population boom of the seventeenth century, Clerkenwell was a fashionable location frequented by many of the rich and famous including Oliver Cromwell. The Industrial Revolution made a big difference to Clerkenwell and it became a booming area for breweries, printing and the manufacture of clocks and watches.
More recently, Clerkenwell went through a decline following World War Two, but has recently seen a huge revival and is now extremely popular with professionals attracted by the array of art galleries, restaurants and night clubs.
