Originally, part of the Borough of Hendon, Cricklewood is now part of the London Borough of Brent, with a small part located in Camden.
It wasn’t until the 20th century that Cricklewood became an industrial and commercial centre. Until then, it was simply a gateway with a handful of cottages providing facilities for coach travellers.
During the 20th century, its large Victorian properties were slowly removed and a range of shops and houses were built along Cricklewood Lane. This was the beginning of suburban Cricklewood as we know it today.
The combination of affordable housing, plenty of tube and railway stations as well as a range of amenities has made Cricklewood a very popular commuter location. Often overlooked as a place for visitors to stay, Cricklewood can be incredibly good value as a tourist base! |
