It wasn’t until the 1950s, 60s and 70s that Harlesden began to take shape in the way that we are used to seeing it in modern times. Now fully integrated as part of the London Borough of Brent, Harlesden was originally taken over as the Willesden Parish became an urban area and this was accelerated when one of the largest industrial estates in Europe was built in neighbouring Park Royal.
During the 20th century, Harlesden saw a substantial amount of low cost housing which has, over the years, degenerated. Recently, there has been considerable regeneration and the region is now attracting an increasing number of professionals due to the good transport links and many trendy bars and clubs. |
