In 1337, Edward III donated the manor of Kennington to his son, the Black Prince. After Kennington was transferred to the Prince he had a large palace built for himself, the site of which is now Black Prince Road. Today, much of the Kennington area is owned by the Prince of Wales and Duchy of Cornwall.
Situated in the London Borough of Lambeth, Kennington is primarily residential, although there is some light industry and plenty of shops to enjoy. Another popular attraction in Kennington is the Oval cricket ground. Neighbouring areas include Elephant and Castle, Vauxhall and Stockwell, all of which offer excellent city central transport links. |
