Since its development in the 1920s Keston has been home to wealthy inhabitants who sought to turn their back on smoky insalubrious London, and it’s never quite managed to shake off its posh image. Earls and dukes owned the land in the 19th century, and former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once lived here with her family; today it’s a little less aristocratic but offers a truly countrified existence with horse riding and “ladies’ trips” to the theatre. Aside from green space and homes, this Bromley suburb also has a church and three windmills which have existed since the 19th century.
