Stockwell Area Guide

Less than two and a half miles away from the centre of London, Stockwell is still considered part of inner city London in the London Borough of Lambeth. Stockwell is located centrally between several other popular southern districts such as Clapham, Brixton and Kennington.

For more than six centuries, Stockwell was no more than a sprawling manor with a range of beautiful gardens. Some of the history of this area has been preserved, in particular in the Stockwell Park Conservation Area.

In recent years, Stockwell has become one of the largest Portuguese communities in the capital and is now densely populated with a mixture of social and private housing as well as multiple restaurants, bars, nightclubs and entertainment venues.
