Yiewsley

Few Londoners have ever heard of Yiewsley, as this peaceful destination is situated far away from the centre of town in the borough of Hillingdon, to the west of the city. There is a distinctly villagey feel thanks to the pretty buildings; the Grand Union Canal runs through here, a section of which has been amusingly named Otter Dock, though it is not known whether there was once an otter community inhabiting it. The area thrived in the 18th and 19th centuries thanks to brickmaking companies and agricultural activities; today there is a high street populated by branches of KFC and Pizza Hut, four churches and cheap supermarkets.
