Delicious food, prompt service and a nice small-restaurant atmosphere. Masala dosa was great with a cold beer, the lamb vindaloo was good but with the paratha was excellent, and a sweet lassi finished off a great meal.

I have been going to Ragams a few times a year for over 20 years - I can say this of no other resturant. Lets be honest how many resturants have survived 2 recessions with the same menu throughout?

In that time the shabby, even slightly grubby decor has rarely changed and the feel remains the same. Thankfully the food hasn't changed either.
The highlight are the Dosa's (rice pancake filled with spicy potato, served with Sambar and coconut chutney) and are exquisite, and hard to get elsewhere. As a confirmed meat eater I would nonetheless eat the vegetarian Masala dosai every day of my life if I could. The food is practically given away and is fresh and flavoursome and never gratuitously hot - I usually leave a 50% tip becuase it is so embarassingly cheap. This resturant is the antithesis of the Chicken Tikka Masala brigade on every highstreet, and is entirely authentic. You can often drop in during the week or at lunch, but to be sure it is worth booking - Ragam's is small and sometimes bursting at the seams.

Ragam's is a gem of a resturant, not the place for a swanky meal, but unless you have been to a South Indian resturant you only know the lesser half of Indian food, and Ragam's is simply the best university the perfect place to complete this essential education. BUT Please don't all go there too often otherwise it may be too busy when I next want to go!

I've been to Ragam several times following a rave review in the Guardian a couple of years ago. If you like South Indian food, it's brilliant, with lots of choices.

This small south indian restaurant is a jewel in the heart of Bloomsbury and I recommend that you try it. The service is friendly and the range of dishes extensive and expertly prepared. Try the masala dosa and I guarantee you will be back for more. We eat here regularly and pay no more than £15 per head including drinks.
