Hugely disappointing, would most certainly not recommend to anyone.
I used to come to Jom Makan in Trafalgar Square when I worked in the area. I always loved it, the service was fast, the portions generous and the food was great. I hadn't been since May 2010 but as I'm about to move out of London I thought I'd go one last time. I've just had the biggest disappointment of my life.
The service to start with was appalling. Our waitress couldn't give us any useful information about the menu. My favourite dish, the Nasi Goreng Kampung was no longer on the menu. Instead I opted for a Nasi Lemak Ayam and my partner for a Ayam Hainanese.
The hainanese arrived first and it was basically breaded chicken with garlic mayo and a bowl of rice... not quite what the menu described!
When my dish arrived, the chicken was actually undercooked so I sent it back to the kitchen. Not something I usually do but raw chicken is not a risk I'm willing to take. The whole time they were re-cooking my dish and when I was eating it, two of the cooks were staring at us with a grin, not a hint of remorse for serving up a poor quality dish. It made me feel really uncomfortable.
Honestly, it was nothing of the Jom Makan I remembered and I will most definitely not miss it when I go away!

After a hot sweaty day visiting the London sites, my partner and I decided to rest our weary feet at the food of Trafalgar Square and contemplated where to go and eat. I caught out of the corner of my eye Jom Makan, so popped across the road to take a look. We love any kind of Asian cuisine, but had not tried Malaysian before so decided to give it a go. Well I am so pleased we did. We were greeted with great big smiles from the waiting staff who were very helpful as they talked us through the menu. I can never make up my mind what to have, so generally we end up sharing ... which is just what we did. And what a delight it was. The food was really tasty and not too spicy. The Satay was yummy and I could have gone for seconds of the Rendang Daging. We don’t get the opportunity to visit London very often, but will definitely make a point of popping back to Jom Makan next time. Thank you Jom Makan for the perfect end to a perfect sunny day.

We are Torontonians who recently visited London for two weeks. We ate at Jom Makan three times. It's food is simply wonderful for that part of the city (which may not be saying much, but we liked it). Given that numerous servers in numerous restaurants asked us if, as Torontonians, we were having fun finding a decent place to eat in London, Jom Makan was a nice change. Since you're going to pay outrageously for a meal in London anyway, why eat a good one? Make a point to go to Jom Makan.

Took my mother to Jom Makan on Mother's Day with a voucher i had downloaded from the Jom Makan website which entitled us to order any dish on the menu and pay only £2 for each dish, a pretty good deal i would say seeing as most restaurants hike up their prices on Mother's Day. My mother is a big Malaysian food fan and a regular at Satay House so we were prepared to be critical but we were thoroughly impressed. The beef satay was full of flavour and the peanut sauce the best i have tasted, i will definately be stopping by for satay again. The best part was, with the £2 voucher the total meal for both of us came to just £15, which left me with one happy wallet!

Stopped into JOM Makan this weekend for lunch with the kids at the recommendation of a friend. I've walked past it so many times on my way to work and never even noticed it before. We were in luck as they had a special offer on, which i believe runs till the end of January, where children under 13 eat for free and you get a free drink with every main meal. All in all, it was fantastic value for money and having never eaten Malaysian food before it was a mouth watering first experience and the kids enjoyed it too. Will definately be going back.
Have your say
