Excellent small restaurant. Been there for dinner and Sunday brunch and each time the food and service have been fantastic! Good neighbourhood restaurant.

ooh this cafe is so cheap and lovely and friendly. It was so reasonable that we questioned the bill. an absolute delight in every way.

Definitely the best (and probably cheapest) coffee on Holloway Road and a free fudge to boot! Wouldn't go anywhere else for my morning latte. Food looks delicious too!

Absolutely gorgeous garden out the back that you wouldnt know about from the street. Great service. I only had drinks in the morning in the sunshine but the food looked incredible. Definitely will be coming back for more.

La Muse is a delightful little french restaurant on holloway road. we live just off holloway road, and despair at the lack of decent restaurants around if you dont want to venture to upper street and its chain restaurants..
my girlfriend and i went there last night and i have to say the food there is brilliant. I had the frisson/frixons salad to start however its spelt and it was absolutely gorgeous.. then had the le burger, which was a beautiful hand made seriously tasty burger with a nice herb sauce.. she had the tomato crumble to start and the aubergines for main, and loved it.. all this was followed up by a gorgeous carrot cake to share.. forgot to say the wine list, whilst not huge is carefully selected
i noticed some of the reviews down there, and i would have to disagree with some of the negative comments.. yes it is small, but thats part of the charm. i hate eating out in a restaurant with 100 other dinners, i prefer smaller places where care and attention is paid to customers.. this is the sort of place id feel comfortable bringing my closest friends for a nice dinner and a few bottles of wine, or a special someone.. it also has a really nice garden at the back where you can sit and enjoy your dinner.
all in all, i love it. great food, good service and its one that we will definitely come back to time and time again..

Amazing.
Food is top notch, true French cuisine (I should know, I'm a frog). Very small restaurant, which is perfect as everything is prepared on order. This is not a chain restaurant where food is prepared on premises then frozen then microwaved when ordered. So sit back, relax, stuff yourself on the humous and flatbread starter and just chat the meal away. Even the house wine is quality (you can check the label on bottle, this is not "vin de table" made from the bottom of barrels from all over the EU). I found the cuisine traditional with personality, very fresh, and above all the price is unbelievable. I'd eaten at Chez Gerard the previous week (what a mistake). For the same price, £30, my meal at La Muse was 10 times better. I shouldn't rave so much because this is now going to be the place where I take out all my friends.
PS I have no idea where the people who gave bad reviews when to eat, it must have been somewhere else. La Muse is a real gem.

i'm so surprised people have posted unsatisfactory reviews of La Muse. I've been twice in the last few weeks and have been really happy both times. I went for brunch both times. the lattes are excellent, huge cups, served very quickly, and all meals that we ordered were excellent. i had eggs florentine both times because they were so good the first time. also, the food is quite cheap for what you get (unless you get a croque madame for £4 as another reviewer got, but that's always what croque madame's are like, if you don't like egg on toast with cheese, don't order croque:)). the staff are really nice and helpful and prompt and the atmosphere is perfect, not pretentious like a lot of places around H+I can be. we live a few blocks away and will be La Muse regulars.
i'd suggest checking it out, at least for brunch. will be doing supper there soon so see what evenings are like.

Very cute place with a lovely little garden at the back. I haven't tried the food but I'd recommend it as a cafe. Small, but great for sitting outside in the summer, very nice owner.

This place is really disappointing. I went there last weekend as it is new and was excited by the idea that it was on Holloway Road and not a kebab shop! The food was below average. I ordered a Croque Madame and got a (cold) toasted cheese and ham sandwich with an egg on top. My boyfriend ordered the mushroom omlette with chips and it was served to him really late (after I had finished) as they cooked him a ham omlette (he is vege). The chips were cooked in really bad oil which made him vomit when we got home. The coffee had a bitter, dirty taste, so not suited to the masses. The orange juice was concentrate out of a bottle.
It is a shame really as the waitress and the owner are very nice and the place itself is very sweet. I noticed they have a large courtyard which will be a great place to sit over the summer months.
If they just sorted out their food they would do really well, as their is a french cafe on Ronalds Road (5 mins walk) that is literally heaving with customers every weekend.

Disappointing food. Overpriced. Uncomfortable. I entered La Muse with my girlfriend pretty randomly as we were looking for a restaurant on Holloway Road and it looked cool from the outside. But inside there are two major problems with the place:
1) It is too small: just enough room for 3 tables at the back and three at the narrow corridor in front of the kitchen. The ceiling at the back was so low that I couldn't stand proper upright (serious!) I'm 6 foot, so we had to sit at the corridor, where we had zero privacy since it was the natural hangout of the waitress and obviously the cook. Plus it was pretty cold, I had to ask for the gas heater to be turned on. Uncomfortable plastic chairs.
2) The food was at best average. My "Coq Au Vin" was unacceptably a chicken leg (!). Fried in a pan and served with the oily skin without any sauce at all, nevermind wine sauce. It went with unseasoned vegetables, mushrooms and roast potatoes. The potatoes were the only decent part of the dish, freshly cooked and tasty. The overall dish was tiny though, a chicken leg with a few fresh veg and 4 pieces of roast potato. The fries which were extra side were inaccurately referred at in the menu as 'homemade'. They were definitely pre-cut, and in our case served almost burned. The rest of the fries was just sitting in a tray behind a glass, fast food-style. Without the fries the dish cost $10.
I felt deeply ripped off. Avoid.
