Serving smooth Antipodean flat white coffee using a bespoke blend of roasted beans from local roasters Climpson & Sons, and tasty simple food inspired by our favourite cafés throughout the world with ingredients that are as local and fresh as possible.

get a feel of the Hackney that most people don’t know

Sshh… there’s a new Broadway Market coming. Stocking up on vintage shops, excellent cafes and a hip new hairdressers there’s a scene on Wilton Way’s horizon. Love or loathe this prediction, there needs to be a base and where Camden had the Hawley Arms and New Cross the Amersham Arms, Wilton’s Café will be the more mature, relaxed caffeinated leader of this street’s pack.

Wilton’s is independent and much of its focus is on its locale. Designed in Hackney, food is sourced locally and the beans come from Climpson and Sons. The reclaimed corrugated design feels light and spacious in a relatively enclosed area and fixed benches on the walls reveal old crates nailed onto wheels as mobile tables and stools. In the corner by the window there’s a microphone and a booth where the sounds of London Fields Radio are broadcast out into the ether and making your stop a little more musical.

The coffee is as good as you would expect from an antipodean approach and only Monmouth does a better flat white. There are organic fruit juices as well as soy based coffees and teas. The food is refined simplicity. The Portobello mushroom on sour dough bread with goat’s cheese is tasty and the famous Wilton’s avocado and bacon bap could be breakfast everyday.

This is the place to come to get a feel of the Hackney that most people don’t know about where the big window at the back makes for a view that’s a good way to start or end a day.

It's like a hug in a mug. And luckily for us Brits, it's now... over here.

Feel the high with their flat white in a far out arty atmosphere that says never fear, there really is a life beyond nine to five jobs – thanks to the laptop crowd who pack it out daily. The walls are covered with creative creations and there’s the in-house London Fields Radio so you can hear muso’s playing their favourite psych rock, Sixties girl groups and general interestingness while you tip back that micro foam. The Climpson’s beans are a winner.

With its location out in the suburbs of Hackney it might be tempting to write Wilton’s off as a local place. However, the coffee is too good for that. There isn’t the delicate weighing of beans and temperature control that you see in some establishments but for a warm welcome, a fine coffee and one of the best bacon and avocado baps you’ll ever eat it’s worth travelling to.

Wilton's is a way of life in this area and what's important is that it doesn't just play the part of offering outstanding coffee - it really is outstanding.

Waking up and heading down for a bacon and avocado bap is the best start to a day that I could imagine... almost. Now if only the (friendly) staff could remember your order for longer than the two minutes they interact with you so you don't have to prompt them ten minutes later when it hasn't turned up. But, hey ho, nowhere's perfect.
