The Good Earth

I went for dinner last week and both food and service were excellent. Had a set menu for £30 per head, not too bad for this area. Wine was reasonable (the mark up appears to be about 200% on lower end wines, again not bad for the area) and the atmosphere was lively but not overly so.

All in all the bill was £130 for the two of us, which included wine plus drinks before and after the meal, and we left feeling very satisfied in every way.

The service at The Good Earth was so appalling it overshadows any positives established by the menu offerings. The staff were unashamedly rude and condescending, mostly because - quelle horreur! - we had brought one of those filthy objects known as children onto the premises. The disdain was palpable. if they had just opened their eyes and seen what a well-behaved individual she is. Our daughter is a well-seasoned diner at fine restaurants, and she has never once embarrassed or inconvenienced other diners during any meal out. I cannot tell you how sorry I am that I put up with the service and actually paid the bill. I believe that the food was excellent, but I did not enjoy dining there and would not go there again.
