Fire & Stone

Having been amazed at the wonder that is Westfield we needed to rest our weary feet and re-energise. With such interesting restaurant choices (Dell Aziz, Wahaca) and some old favourites (Gourmet Burger, The Real Greek) so close, it was hard to decide but we were attracted by the unusual pizza menu at Fire and Stone.

The pizza menu has sections on Africa, Asia, Americas, Australasia and Europe. My colleague – a vegetarian – browsed the Asia menu and selected Lombok (£8.95) which comprised garlic prawns, hoi sin sauce, red peppers with spring onions and chilli oil. She seemed happy enough.

I went for the slightly more creative Acapulco (£7.95) from the Americas menu – ground chilly beef, jalapenos, red onions with sour cream and guacamole - a delightful combination of flavours. Our Greek side salad overflowed from its dinky bowl. My mojito was passable and my colleague’s glass of Chenin Blanc was nice enough. The total bill came to around £30 so reasonable value for money.

Sadly the service was poor. The staff were young, slow and largely disinterested. This was a real shame as the décor was outstanding – a great copper oven reaching to the ceiling, bright red and white walls, frosted and patterned glass windows, sociable bench seats as well as traditional tables and chairs, some raised booths for small groups and real fires keeping those dining outside warm.
