All In London Review
A firm favourite when you want a good Italian meal!
Tucked around the corner from the main piazza in Covent Garden, this long established restaurant remains a firm favourite for when you want a good Italian meal, without a fuss, that is reliable. I can’t vouch for the other branches as I have never been to any. In fact, I didn’t even know there were others – I plan to try some of the others in the near future to see how they compare.
Upstairs the restaurant is quite formal – with proper tablecloths and nicely set places. The staff are relaxed but efficient and there are no airs and graces. Downstairs it is more of a relaxed pasta joint – one of the best in the area so ideal for day time eating during weekend shopping with your friends.
On my most recent visit I had carpaccio which melted in my mouth. Not too many frills but a good sized portion. My vegetarian colleague had the mozzarella with cherry tomatoes – not very original but it did look good. Starters are around £8 and there are a couple where you can share – if you like antipasto and cold meats. Calves liver (£15) is always a favourite and it didn’t disappoint. My vegetarian friend had risotto primavera (starter size around £8 or mains at £14). Ok. So there are better Italian restaurants in London, but Bertorellis is good at simple dishes done to the very highest standards with good quality, fresh ingredients. Whilst we were two girls dining out, the majority of others were in mixed groups of around six although there were a few couples chatting happily.
Chianti classico at £32 if you like red or a light, fresh verdicchio if you prefer white at £20. And we always ask for tap water these days.

Even when I telephone to make a booking, the warmest of welcomes is assured with our name being remembered. When we arrive, the most cordial of return greetings is assured with staff remembering our faces.Such fantastic customer care really does go a long way in ensuring we return as often as is possible.
In short,a splendid experience of a world class Italian restaurant and throughly to be recommended prior to a visit to the Royal Opera House !Benissimo,et grazie, amici.

PS a drop of Balsomic might make the cover charge(which went out twenty years ago) more bearable

a four cheese pizza and a pasta dish with a moderately priced bottle of wine. The service was pleasant and allowed us to relax without a rush and
the food great and a really enjoyable and delicious evening.
I would and will go back for certain.
