Hive

Stumbled upon this restuarant when out for my bff's birthday. Interesting. We started at 5, one person drinking coffee. It was cold. by 6 the place started filling up and warmer now. People drinking mostly. Kitchen would not serve us until 6 . Olives and bread for starters. Lamb cutlet, sweet potato and overcooked green beans -main. Banana with ?shop bought ice cream and meringue - looked like M+S sourced. Bff had beer and wine. Coffee tolerable.

Meal came to £50 and ok for a cold january night. Two French speaking guys - maybe French -seemed to regulars. Started with beers and cigarettes on the pavement and then upstairs to the cocktail bar they went.

My overall verdict, could do better. 3 boys to men came in for sausage and mash and beers. So maybe the thing to learn about the Hive is that it is not perfect but if you have money to throw away - and some of us still do - throw it at local eateries instead of the you know whats - anodyne multichains with decreasing excitement.

Out back into the bitter night, young people of all races fill the streets and pubs overflow with older locals - mainly black faces. Brixton remains fun and trendy and with it.

Hive - you asked for feedback. Do better. Dont buy shop bought stuff because going out is the going out. Staying in I could do better. Except I dont want to. I want to be with people and my bff so we can grow old disgracefully. We are both in our 50s but have decided that we will remain teenagers forever. So feed us well and we will keep coming back.
