Heritage Inn
Caribbean Restaurant in Cricklewood
Heritage Inn is a Caribbean restaurant and rhum bar. Committed to Caribbean custom, the rhum bar and restaurant offers a wide range of traditional dishes and drinks which include rum, cocktails and beers. Entertainment includes nights of Revival Music, Soca and Disco.
I thought i would take my husband out for a nice meal as it was his 40th birthday, i had been recommened this restaurant and i really wish i wasn't. The staff were rude and practually ignored us.. I asked for a table of 2 of was told "sorry but you should have booked as we are busy" i explained that i had called to make a booking a few days before and was told not to worry as we could just come in.. A table was then found but the waitress did not look very happy about it. I had gone to to toilet and when i came back the waitress was taking my husbands order, she had not even waited for me.. I ordered the chicken wings and was charged £5 for 3 wings.. My husband had ordered the swordfish and ackee and was really unhappy as there seemed to be avocado hiding in it so it looked more. My husband had ordered plantain, which never arrived and the waitress did not seem to bothered about this. [when we got her attention]. My husband also nearly dehydrated while waiting to order a beer and then waiting for it to arrive. The waitress cleared our plates and then vanished. My husband wanted to order a dessert and a punch but was not even given the option as when the waitress came back she just put the bill on the table.
I have worked in restaurants for many years and have never been so disgusted with the lack of service.. I never even left a tip, something which i will always do.
My husband left the restaurant still hungry and i left feeling like we were just an inconvience.
I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone, unless they like being made to feel an irritation.
Thank God for the Heritage Inn! I was asked to organise a hen party for a very good friend of mine on Saturday 24th July 10. Having never done this before, it was a bit daunting. After drawling through the Internet to find a suitable venue in North West London, my sister suggested trying the Heritage Inn and I am so glad I did. The customer service from start to finish was excellent. From Carol (in the office) who was able to advise on what might be best for our party to the people who served us with patience and a smile (not easy with a hen party full of demanding women!) to the fantastic DJ who made the bride to be feel special and played some brilliant tunes that mixed the new with the 'old skool'.
The food was excellent as agreed by the whole group (15 people in total) and the atmosphere was welcoming and positive and we all had a great time. Most importantly, the bride felt the evening was special.
The Heritage Inn has a great clientele base and this was also very important in making the event an enjoyable one. Whether you are 25 or 45, this is a great place to relax, have some great food and drink and dance the night away at very reasonable prices.
All I can say to the management and staff is to keep doing what you are doing to continue to bring that positive vibe to the area. I came from South London and I will definately be back!
Thank You :-)
My name is Sharon.
Now what can I say about The Heritage Inn.
Well for starters, I had previously been a very satisfied customer of theirs when they were based elsewhere in Cricklewood.
In January 2010, my daughter arranged a surprise birthday bash for me and my partner there. The food was absolutely delicious and enjoyed by all who were invited to our birthday surprise. As the night lingered and our food digested, we were then able to enjoy the music and shake a leg or two afterwards on the dance floor. The music was entertaining and the crowd, which I liked, very lively.
Now would I go there again?
Yes, and I did for the do that I arranged for my mother's surprise birthday.
This was on a much bigger scale than the one arranged for me by my daughter and The Heritage catered for one and all without any problems.
I would say that if you like Caribbean food and a taste of the musical night life, then the place to be is The Heritage Inn and you'll have smiles to last for a very good long time.
The place is as pleasant as the people and the rum punch special if you reach before 11 p.m. on a Saturday is £2.00 and looooveeeely.
I hope that if you step into the Heritage Inn you will enjoy the food and the atmosphere as much as me and my people did. Satisfaction is key, and we received that and my mother enjoyed herself. I never knew she had so much energy left in her at the age of 60. Bless her. She was dancing more than me.
This is in response to the negative comment about the record sleeves. I am responding to this, not as one of the Heritage's djs, but as an avid record collector. In these times of Ipods, Cds and Laptops which djs use to perform with, it is good to see a venue taking a stance in preserving the artistic creativity of the record industry. The record display features artists from many genres of music and not just artist from the Caribbean. Patrons visiting are amazed to see the collection that has awarded the Heritage many a compliment and sparked many a conversation, reflecting on the time when vinyl was king. You visited the Heritage and you were not impressed by this, i only wish you could of visited when some of the producers, musicians, label owners and artists who's records are on show, stand there with pride to see their works, revered and displayed for all to see! The Heritage is living up to its name, by keeping a tradition and continuing a legacy. Appreciation and respect should be given for the time, effort and hard work that the curator spent in putting this together.
I found it interesting to see a "10 out of 10" review posted shortly after my "constructive" review. This review seems to have been added by management rather than a guest "The place was buzzing" - hardly! The "ambience" was a DVD which kept on re-playing throughout our time there. The DVD showed live performances by a variety of reggae artists some of whom where grabbing their groins or rotating their groins towards the faces of the audience. That was hardly suitable for a Mothers' Day Lunch where families with young children would be present. The sound was turned down so after a while it became an annoyance. To contrast this there was pre-recorded music playing on a stereo system, which played a variety of songs including christmas songs!
I don't know what time the "buffet" "had been laid on earlier in the day/evening" but it wasn't "laid on" when we were there!
As for giving them "top marks for presentation of the food and the service which we received" - this clearly contradicts all that I have said. There wasn't even a drinks facility available upstairs. Had we known that we would have to spend our time going up and down the stairs, waiting for ages to be served (they were also short staffed behind the bar), just to buy cartons of soft drinks and spirits, we would have brought our own.
During our conversation with Management, the gentleman appeared surprised to be told that we were not provided with menus or that the food had not been served as a buffet - surely it is part of their job to keep an eye on things and check what is happening?
It was my first visit to Heritage Inn, but my group and I most definitely will not be venturing there again. I guess they can always rely on the people who have lower expectations.
A group of 10 of us turned up at the Heritage Inn on Sunday 14th March without a prior booking. This came about after being turned away from 2 other restaurants who could not take us due to the size of our group and no prior arrangements being made with them. On entering the Heritage Inn we were again faced with the posibility of being turned away because on observation the restaurant was full. The place was buzzing and we realised that they were very busy. Not being daunted we approached a waitress at the reception area and asked if it was possible for them to take on a group of 10. She was very polite and helpful, and after making enquiries said that although the restaurant was full, they would be able to seat us in the function room where it was laid out for larger groups, but there was a waiting time of up to 1 hour.
We were seated in the function room within the hour and was inmpressed both with the surroundings and the ambience of the room. It was explained to us that unfortunately we were too late for the buffet that had been laid on earlier in the day/evening, but a waitress would come around to take our individual orders and we would be served from the kitchen.
We were very impressed with the service, the food and was very happy that we did decide to go to the Heritage Inn before returning home. We will certainly be going to the Heritage Inn again and we give them top marks for presentation of the food and the service which we received.
A group of us (24 people) went to Heritage Inn for their Mothers' Day lunch. I have never encountered such a poor standard of service and attitude. First of all, there were insufficient staff to serve us so 3 members of our party were acting as unpaid waitresses just to ensure that we were fed! The management's response to this when we asked for a reduction in the price was that they volunteered to do so and that Heritage Inn do not charge a service charge! The joke of it was that the food was actually laid out in a buffet style help-yourself way but looking at the small portions that were served, management did not wish guests to do so. We occupied 3 tables but no menus were present so we had no idea whether any of the ingredients contained potentially life-threatening foods. For example, we were told that the Avocado Delight was an avocado salad, when it was brought out it was actually prawn and avocado! The plain rice and roast potatoes were both hard and not cooked thoroughly and the fruit salad was still frozen in parts! The food ran out so that the ladies who were serving were not able to have much choice in what they could eat. On the way out there were at least 2 lights which were not working on the stairs leaving them very poorly lit which was a health and safety issue due to the fact that they could hardly been seen and several elderly ladies and very young children had to use them. The management should have cancelled the bookings or warned diners of the problems/delays rather than allowed things to have been so bad. For some it was their second visit to Heritage Inn and they had encountered the same delays in being served on that visit. In a time of recession, the management of Heritage Inn need to realise that people will be unwilling to spend their hard earned cash in an establishment which does not cater to their needs and they need to understand that public relations and your attitude can make or break a business.
Happily, this public house has been closed. The Heritage Inn was more of a noisy music venue, not suited to the area, and not sufficiently policed. Due to the high level of disturbance and criminal activities, local residents and the local police were presenting a long list of complaints to the court reviewing the licence. We are not clear for what reasons this premises has closed but we are very happy that it has.
I am sorry for the previous reviewer as I think that the good aspects of this venue could have been developed for customers such as her, rather than obliterated by whatever it was that was actually going on there.
Heritage Inn is the most authentic caribbean restaurant happening at the moment. The atmosphere is great even in the week when it's not busy. It's good to be able, as a Black woman, to go out and relax in a truly authentic caribbean atmosphere. The decor, the choices of drinks (every choice of punch you can think of) and lastly, but most importantly the food. WOW. Massive portions, properly cooked and seasoned and not westernised for the more delicate pallets. The service can take a while, but well worth the wait. The prices are also very good for what you get. So if you want a truly caribbean experience, this is the place to go. They have a late licence from Fridays over the weekend.
