An exact replica of its counterpart in Paris, Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecote intends to transplant the most famous brasserie in Paris directly into the heart of London. Founded 46 years ago in Paris by wine grower M Gineste de Saurs, whose daughter Mme. Godillot now owns and runs the restaurant, Le Relais de Venise ‘L’Entrecote’ centres around one very simple menu – a starter of a green salad with walnuts, followed by trimmed sirloin steak and chips with a ‘secret sauce’ and to finish, a selection of desserts. The most famous aspect of Le Relais de Venise ‘L’Entrecote’s’ reputation is the secret sauce – a recipe that has been in the family for many years.

All In London Review
Meat eater paradise..
You are only asked how you want your sirloin steak – the rest is taken care of for you. You start with a simple but really tasty green salad with walnuts. Even the most hardened “don’t do salads” will clean their plates. Then they bring you an enormous plate of fries (thin) and deliver the first portion of your steak. This is cooked to perfection and accompanied by a tasty sauce (apparently a closely guarded secret recipe). You devour this steak perfection and, just as you think you are coming to the end of your ecstasy, they kindly bring over the balance of steak – heaven!
I usually have a glass of the house wine (£3.95 - £4.50). Served in gratifyingly French tumblers. I don’t know what the house wine is, but it is excellent.
And all this for a very reasonable price (£19 for the starter and steak frites). And I have never got to the desserts – although there is an extensive range of sorbets at £4.50. On one occasion I spotted the actor Billy Zane there with his agent. I am addicted. To the restaurant, not Billy Zane. And I defy you not to want to visit it more than once. No reservations but no problem as the wait is worth it.
There are other branches in Paris and Barcelona. I am almost tempted to arrange a trip just so that I can try them….

Best For
Our favourite steak restaurants
Mmmm. Steak.
As fans of France, we couldn’t forget to recommend our favourite Parisian transplant, Le Relais de Venise. Again, steak is simple and here they take that mantra and run with it. You can choose a salad as a starter but when it comes to mains it’s a choice between steak frites and steak frites. That’s right; there is no choice, which we think is charming. Everywhere we look there are choices to be made and hey, that’s great, but once in a while the entrecote (rib-eye), frites and ‘secret sauce’ at Le Relais de Venise is just what we need, no questions asked.

I love places like this. A reduced menu nearly always means increased quality. And if there's only one thing on the menu, it means that thing is damn near perfect!
Yes it's only steak and chips but they're excellent steak and chips.
Plus you've got to expect a slightly brusk attitude... the staff are nearly all French!

The bill? - £62 inc 10% optional service.Quality of service? Very French and efficient but certainly never under pressure to hurry.
Go again?- For one of the best steaks I've ever eaten? Definitely.

The seating is terrible and very cramped.
The gentleman behind me was sitting a little back in his chair and consequently the ten waitresses kept pushing into us to get past, then leaning over accusatorily and looking at me as if to say "cant you move in a bit"
The same situation arose when they were serving the food to us and our neighbours (whose conversations might as well have been at our table they were so close). One waitress spotted my discomfort and asked if everything was ok. When I said everything was fine apart from the lack of space she went into a long speech which literraly ended with the words "you should try working here"
Before the bill arrived we were discussing whether I should pay the 10% service charge - which I did along with an added 17.5% charge for VAT.
I can't remember eating in anywhere other than at a takeaway such as pret where i was charged VAT.
A staggering experience not to be repeated.
Oh .. the steak was ok and some colleagues had a good lunch here
