We were a party of 8 & had a great time. The waiters were very attentive & helpful, & the food was excellent so what more can you ask for?

The Indian Ocean is great. Yeah, the service is a bit slow. Yeah, it looks like God's waiting room but the food is lovely and the dishes are cooked with love. I've found that the quality you get is very dependent on the day you go, so Thursday, Friday and weekends are usually better, I like taking friends here 'cause I know it will always be good enough, unlike some random Brick Lane curry house, it's not cheap, but it's not to pricey either but you will order too much!!

I wrote this to counter the last guy's review, I felt he might scare people off because he had one bad experience, and I'd like to see them do well.

That's it,

We were a party of six and upfront let me say that the food was actually pretty good, the starters while stingy (£5.00 for the mixed kebab was nothing short of daylight robbery) were still very well spiced and well cooked.

The poppadom / papad or whatever you prefer to call them were also good but the dips as per usual were very substandard (this was my 4th visit here having previously enjoyed the food for take-outs, but we ate in for a friends birthday). There was no mixed pickle despite always being requested and the tomato based dip tastes like that bad bit at the top of a ketchup bottle if you forget to shake the bottle.

Main courses were fine except the chicken makhani tasted like the chef accidentally dropped a bottle of cheap texas bbq sauce in it and couldn't remove it in time. I asked for a garlic and chilli naan which wasn't on menu and it was delicious, but everything had gone cold by the time the rices arrived which spoiled the positives about the main courses. Sides were a tad "gloopy" particularly the aloo gobi.

This would still have given the Indian Ocean a 7/10 purely on the kitchen staffs almost excellent but "needs tweaking" performance, sadly this score was brought clattering to the lowly 1 star by the service staff who stood around chatting to each other despite repeated attempts to gain their attention, not one of them had a clue what was going on and the bluntness, rudeness, arrogance and abruptness in their mannerisms was staggering.

Unfortunately, despite being an idiot off the street in Holloway I also understood what they were saying to one other (loudly in the presumed safety of their English speaking clientèle) and suffice to say I will not be going back.

They have an award for service in the window which dates back 15 years or so, which I suspect was the last time anyone got excellent service from this place.

Good for a takeaway, but I won't be giving them any more of my hard earned money.

I love my food and the food here is very tasty, from the peshwari naan to any of the mains, everything is just soooooooo tasty. The Mango laasee is also one of the best I have tasted. I will keep on going back. Compliments to the chef!!!

I have eaten at many Indian restaurants around London and I always end up coming back to this, my local because frankly it is the best food and the best value for money. The interior is nothing glamourous or special but what it lacks in atmosphere it more than makes up for in quality of food. Every single dish I have ever ordered has been delicious. The portions are a decent size and the veggie side dishes are absolutely wonderful and definately worth a try, especially the ochra and the aubergine. My favourite on the menu is the King Prawn Mirichi - the sauce is fantastic but its not for the faint hearted as it's loaded with chilli. There's also wonderful Kulfi icecream to finish off with. And when the bill comes you'll find it very reasonable. All in all one of the best Indians in London I would say.
Have your say
