My wife & I travelled from Wigan and dined at the Tay Do restuarant last Thursday 19th August. We were looking for a good Vietnamese restaurant as we used to eat Vietnam food frequently whilst living in Hong Kong. We arrived at the restaurant at 6pm as it was just coming to life. I can honestly say that the service was excellent. The staff were very attentative and helpful. The food was delicious, particularly the fried fish which I recommend, as well as their authentic Vietnam dishes. As a previous reviewer stated, if you treat the staff with respect they will reciprocate (applies in any restaurant). I would suggest that you go to the Tay Do early in the evening and if you like Vietnamese food you won't be disappointed.

I'm sorry about the bad experience left by the negative reviewer, although I do sympathise. To be honest, I've never had bad food there, nor any hair in my dish, and in my opinion (I'm Vietnamese), I'd have to say that they're the BEST Vietnamese restaurant in London, and I've tried out quite a few places. That said, they actually do have rubbish service. The waiters seem like they don't care, and once I remember them trying to pressure us to finish our meal - I don't remember how, but I do remember they were quite pushy about it. However, we loved their food so much that we'd keep coming back in SPITE of the service - the food is that good! Their Vietnamese pancakes are beautiful as well as their Bo La Lot (leaf-wrapped beef - awesome), and green papaya salad (I think), not to mention the staple Pho, BBQ pork and spring rolls. The only thing keeping keeping me from giving them a mark of 10 is their service - it's that bad (it's mostly the management, I think). If you're willing to put up with bad service, give them a try.

I went with a few friends last week and the food was super.
I thought it was a cracking bargain as we had starters, mains - plus with tip we all spent £10 each. They didn't even charge corkage for our 5 bottles of booze. Now that is rare.
Portions were good size and the staff were helpful.
We were so pleased as are heading back there for a dinner again tonight - during these times BOY is grrrrrrrrrreat!

I hate to leave negative reviews but in this instance I was so disgusted I can't say anything else. My fiance and I popped into Tay Do for a bite to eat one night. I wish we'd picked a different restaurant instead. It was the worst meal we have ever had. Or not had... He discovered two hairs in his dish after just a few mouthfuls of his food. This obviously put him off... if hygiene standards were so low that he found that in the first two mouthfuls who knows what else might be wrong! He sent his dish back, we both nibbled at mine for a while. We didn't even get through half of it. The staff were very blase about him sending the dish back and didn't even apologise. In fact they seemed disgruntled with us as though we were trouble causers! We asked four times for water only for it to come with the bill. The bill was charging us for the dish we sent back too! They took this off but refused to give us any other discount even though we hardly touched my meal because we put off. They said they had knocked off the cost of our tap waters out of courtesy then walked off and waited for us to leave. Well that's nice! They didn't charge us for warm water from a tap that came with the bill when we'd asked from the start of our meal. The food was horrible. The staff were rude, and the fact that they seemed to care so little about our meal makes me wonder how unhygienic their kitchens must be. Is it standard practice for hairs (and who knows what else may be lurking!) to appear in their meals I wonder. I'm local to the area but I certainly won't be returning. There are far nicer, cleaner(!) restaurants down this road and in the surrounding area.
