I'm afraid i didn't really like the service in this branch. Everything took so long - even payment!

Usually I'm a big fan of pizza express, and have eaten at the St Martin's lane before, but never again after today. First of all our waiter had a huge # of tables to deal with himself, and so the order taking was very slow (not his fault - he performed well under the circumstances). The drinks order then back with the wrong beer, when the lasagne arrived it was still frozen in places and microwave hot in others, and lastly the deserts apparently ran out between the time of order taking and the time of delivering (since it was only 7pm in the evening, how they had planned to get through the whole night was beyond me). Just another unfortunate demonstration of how standards are slipping. Still, we were cheered up by an excellent view of a drunk footie fan outside whose trousers kept falling down before he himself fell over and proceeded to eat discarded McDonalds fries from the pavement. I normally (lazily) head for pizza express when I'm in a rush and don't want to take the risk of somewhere I don't know, but felt a bit let-down by it for the first time. It was absolutely packed on a Tuesday night, so service was pretty slow (I guess probably understandably). My main gripe though was when I ordered my pizza (the new veggie one - can't remember the name) where artichoke was in the title and listed as the first ingredients. When it arrived however I had 3 smallish pieces on the whole pizza - I just felt a bit cheated by them, especially when the cost was higher than most at 9.50ish from memory. Bit of a let-down compared with other branches I've been to - maybe because it's tourist-land there??

I've eaten here many many times over the years of working and living in the neighborhood, during lunch mainly but also late in the evenings and for take out. Overall I would say they absolutely hold up to the good name of the brand, however there are occasions that the service can be slow especially when paying and certainly when collecting a pizza to take away.

My main problem with this branch is that the waiters and waitresses expect a tip, as obviously there are a lot of tourists visiting, but the service doesn't really provide anything other than expected of a pizzeria. The food is always exceptional, as expected.

Definitely recommend, a bad experience is few and far between.

I turned up at 12.30pm with 5 others and we were placed in the table next to the only other diners. It takes 15 minutes before anyone takes orders, even though most staff are standing around doing nothing, leaving our waitress to rush around to get everything by herself including the drinks. One pizza turns up 10 minutes after all the others with a burnt base, others have uncooked bases. We leave without having pudding as it would clearly involve being there for the rest of our lives.
This was the worst Pizza Express experience of my life. An appallingly badly managed branch that lets the whole of the rest of the chain down.
