Hello, I tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday evening based on the overall positive reviews. It is conveniently located near King's Cross station and this suited my brother-in-law who was passing through London.
I had Tarkal Dal and Sag Aloo and after leaving the restaurant I felt absolutely sick. I felt sick for hours, not even in India I had envisaged feeling so sick after eating in an Indian restaurant and this was in London and having drunk tap water! I had an ordeal of a night because of something profoundly wrong in the food I was served.
After my experience I would recommend to everybody to stay clear from this place!

Dined here with a friend on a thursday evening around 10pm. The staff was not friendly and never once smiled at us. We ordered two starters and two dishes from the chef special with a soft drink and beer- the food was standard, not amazing but it was okay. We felt slightly rushed as they took the dishes away as soon as I finished the food.

We were then given the bill - which we have not asked for, but we felt like having dessert so we asked them if we could perhaps see the dessert menu. We were told "no, no desserts" as if we were being told off - I asked why? He said again "no, no dessert" and left the table. I figured perhaps it was late and they have stopped servig desserts?? I don't know- but then a couple walked on and asked for a table and they accepted. Obviously it wasn't because it was late.

We just wanted to pay and leave. The bill came up to £38 (service charge was included)
Worse place to eat to be honest, staff service is disgusting and food was not worth it.

This place was one of the worst I've been to for service. I've been in the hospitality industry for many years now & this place is awful.
We went on a Friday evening about 9:30pm.
First off, the table had stained linen. It didn't even have cutlery on it. They left us sitting there for about 15 minutes before even giving us a menu or offering us a drink.
We ordered a bottle of house wine. They came and tried to give us a different wine. We then ordered a different wine & they came back with another wine that we didn't order. Said they didn't have either of the ones we previously ordered. We eventually just accepted the third bottle they decided we were going to drink as we couldn't be bothered to argue about it.
Food was ok. Not bad, but not great. We were left sitting there for ages after the mains before they cleared the table. We ordered one dessert & a Cafe Royale (which was way too sweet). They completely ignored the third person at our table & we had to call them back so she could order. No apologies from the staff.
Then they just gave us our bill without us asking for it. They also had the audacity to add a service charge on to the bill. Then it took them over 20 minutes to bring the card machine over so we could pay. I was all for walking straight out the door without paying.
Plus the waiters didn't smile or seem to be very interested in being friendly to the customers, in fact they seemed very sullen.

This is one restaurant that I will NEVER go back to.

A family group of 7 of us visited this restaurant in february 2010. It was, by far, the worst eating experience I have had. The food was, at best, ordinary. When it arrived the portions were small, greasy and not even warm.
However, that is the best bit. The worst part was the complete lack of space. The tables, especially at the rear, are CRAMMED together so that you simply can't move. The toilet is inaccessible because people's chairs are completely over what SHOULD be a gangway.
We saw one table pressed to move, in spite of them having been there about 20 minutes, in order to use the table for another, bigger group. I saw one couple almost pushed out because they had almost finished and the staff wanted the table for another group.
And then they have the cheek to levy a service charge - WHAT A JOKE!!
It is places like this which give visitors to Kings Cross a VERY bad impression.
DO NOT GO THERE.

I think it's a complete rip off. I had a curry with two garlic Naans and two Cobra beers and an ice cream as a dessert and paid 38 pounds which I think a bit too much for the rough look of the place. The food was quite good but nothing special.
Response from Raj Manager
Dear sir, I really apprate 4 ur comment, I was too shckd whn I read ur comment about bill. According to ur xplanation, ur bill can't b 38 pound. It should b 27, if it is please come with ur bill and see me I will refund ur payment.

This is our favorite indian restaurant in London, we've been going there for about 10 years and of course if you're looking for a luxurious meal this is not the place to go.
Food is delicious, waiters friendly and attentive, there is the kitchy indian music of course.
If you don't have hundred of pounds to spend into a meal you should definitely go there.
The place is clean and there is a friendly atmosphere.
I reckon you to have a go there !
Family of 5, italian, german, and french nationality and we tried a lot of different indian restaurants even the most expensive ones and we keep going back to the Kings Cross Tandoori several times a year !
Our friends loved it too !

this is my local curry house and i've lived here for 7 years. best curry house in the area in my opinion. quite often i get take aways but i have eaten in many times to, staff are always lovely to me and i always get given either a free drink, side dish or poppadoms and chutneys. never noticed a long wait for food unless someone in my party has ordered the lamb chops which they warn you will take longer, and are well worth the wait! in fact i'm going to get a take away from there now!!! kate

Saddest place I have been to in years. Found the staff cold and inhospitable and I think it was easily one of the worst dinner experiences of my life !!!

The look inside was sleazy and the tables were pretty dirty. Save for the few tables near the entrance all the tables had dirty linen :( Food is oily and takes forever to come. Pretty bad to sum it up.

Small, oliy untasty portions and expensive beer. Why go here when there's so many good indian restaurants around?

I have had several take-aways from the Kings Cross Tandoori while visiting London on various occasions and I have been 100% satified with both the service and quality of food. I am generally very sceptical of the quality of Indian takeaway food, but was pleasantly suprised by the fresh, spicy taste of the meals provided in comparison to the usuall watered-down rubbish we get locally (I live in Cheltenham, Glos). Keep up the good work guys and see you again in May 2009 !!! (Any discounts gladly received - Mike) (Meals: Chicken Korma & Chicken Bhuna Madras).

You have to wait a long time for the food. The staff seemes to wait you out, probably 'cause they want you to buy some more drinks. The portions is quite small, very oily and not so spicy. I would definitely not recommend this.

Don't be put off by the front of the restaurant, as you walk in you get a bright and welcome reception from staff

Service is prompt and courteous, Food excellent, the staff seem to be aware people come in here on the way home, especially if you are getting a train, you know you can get a good meal very quickly!

Overall the food is good, and great value for money, well worth a visit!

Absolutely worhtless. In fact the worst restaurant I ever been to. It took about 50 mins from order to get the food, and when it arrived it was disgusting. The lamb was tough and the chicken madras only tasted oil and pepper. The only thing that was eatable was the naan bread.
Beware.
