My Review

10 out of 10 stars

I've been coming to this restaurant for 25 years and have never been disappointed. The Gambas Ajilio are always superb!
The thing is, it is really a local, truly authentic Spanish restaurant, not one of the jumped up, over priced, souless places full of trendy posers which are taking the heart and soul out of Portobello...
I cannot recommend it highly enough

I'd be really intruiged to ask those people who gave this restaurant such appalling reviews to explain exactly what they were expecting from somewhere that quite clearly does 'exactly what it says on the tin.' I went there on a Friday night with my Galician girlfriend and we were thrilled by its vim, vigour and vitality. The seafood tapas were straight from Billingsgate market, cooked perfectly and astonishingly well-priced; the wine was good value (for a Notting Hill eatery); the service was typically Spanish (i.e. efficient but with no strings attached); above all, the ambience was totally, authentically Galician and utterly refreshing. Go go go go go go go!

This restaurant must be a contender for the worst in London. I can only imagine that the good reviews I read amounted to nothing more than advertising, either that or the standard of restaurants has reached an all time low. It might be true that certain people like badly-cooked food and waiters that turn the stomach with their repulsive behaviour. To say this restaurant is bad is simply not enough. It is the most disgusting and dirty place I have ever eaten at. The authorities should close this place down. Eat here if you want to be poisoned!

Not bad. Hvae been a few times and have found it to be cosy.No lound music, no ponsy menue, no ponsy people, just a down to earth, decent spanisg tapas.

Other comments have mentioned the smoke and rude staff. I think the smoke adds character and the rudness is better than fake americanisation that is all to common these days.(ive never found it a problem)

also, booked a table for 25 people, most places were asking for deposits, set menues ect.there was none of that with this restaraunt, just "no problem".(ill let you know how thye meal was)

Galicia restaurant was reviewed extremely well by the Evening Standard (the review is at: TobyYoung.com). All I can say as an addendum to that excellent review that Toby Young provided is that he was not quite honest enough about how bad this place is.

The thing is, if you consider rude waiters, stale food, bad wine and choking smoke part of the ambience of a place, and are prepared to pay for that, then you might love this place.

Anyone with even a modicum of taste and civility should avoid it.

HORRID!

I was really shocked by the rudeness of the waiter - I found the place very unfriendly and our meal was pretty dreadful too. The fish was not fresh and the whole meal had a very greasy feel to it. The room was full of cigarette smoke (nice when eating!) If I had to some it up in 3 words: – YUCK – HORRIBLE – AVOID!

Edmund was correct. This restaurant is DISGUSTING!

Best restaurant in town. Food was great and not expensive at all. Definately recommend it!

The atmosphere was buzzing, suggest you book as it's always packed.

It's almost like being in Spain where everyone knows everyone. The staff there make you feel very welcome.

Great selection for tapas and on the main menu.

Definately going back!

DISGUSTING!

This is one of the worst restaurants in London!

They have not yet learnt how to cook!

The atmosphere is smokey and smells of grease. The waiters are rude and somewhat disgusting to behold.

This is supposed to be a cheap restaurant, however, my experience of it was very expensive!

If you eat here you will regret it.
