My Review

3 out of 10 stars

We were hungry we are life long vegetarians with one vegan we went inside. It was very tiny inside, we had to line up on a grubby staircase, then we were asked what we wanted by a man with lots of hair that was half in and half out of the hair band who then ducked down behind the counter for a good few mins and reapeared with our prepared food. We then squashed ourselves into seats which were very very close to the other hungry diners in this microscopic basement, a real fire hazard. My son found a hair in his food but it was too much of palava trying to get back to the counter and for what so that he could disapear once again below the counter.I dread to think what was below the counter. Dont be fooled by the long line its just so small inside and the food was bland and dissapointing.

Fantastic! The staff are immensely friendly and cheerful, the food is unexpectedly cheap. The all-vegetarian menu, which is not long, is imaginative, and is changed every day. There is something interesting about each dish. What makes this particularly special is that, if you come on your own at busy periods, you will probably have to share a table with someone else who may appreciate some company too. Without question my favourite London restaurant! It's always full of tourists, because it does feature very highly in continental guidebooks.
Don't not be put off by the fact that the queue goes all the way up the stairwell and into the street - it is popular for good reason - but the queue moves fast. Don't be tempted to reserve a seat first, as other customers always give up their seats if they see you have nowhere to sit once you have collected your food.
They serve a unique dessert known as "scrunch" - yummy! - you can collect it from the takeway counter rather than queueing again.

My Review

Nice food, seating conditions are cramped, but I knew that before I went. However, the guy who clears the plates shouted at me that he needed the table back. I was still eating, and had only been there around 15 minutes. When I told him this, he was aggressive, and gave me evils when I left later on. So, nice food marred by aggressive staff member. What a shame.

I loved it there. It was freezing outside and I found the curry delicious and hot. The staff were very friendly too.

Delicious soul food, hearty portions and very reasonable prices. Go downstairs for an eat-in meal or get a takeaway at the cafe door. The queue can be long at lunchtimes but service is quick. Inside is cosy and sociable: ask someone else to share their table and chat with shoppers, tourists and business people on their break, or just read a book while you eat. It's a great little place with a cosy atmosphere and tasty food.

A very bad advert for vegetarian restaurants. Tastless slops. The satay had never seen a peanut in its life. No thank you.
