we went here yesterday after a recc from a relative and were not disappointed. food lovely meze just kept coming and was very good. we have gone to many greek restaurants as my husband is greek and this and steki in brighton are the 2 of the best true greek we have found that are not greek cypriot or greek turkish as there is a difference in food. will be going back...

Enjoyed a really, really good Meze here last night. Mountains of food and good wine, really surprised how good greek wine is, both red and white. Service was efficient and friendly, and all the dishes were explained as they were brought out. If I had any gripe it was that there was no music (Greek or otherwise), not even in the background, so maybe a bit of atmosphere was missing.
As for the reviewer complaining about crab sticks in the salad, bear in mind the meal is 3 courses and includes olives, pickles, pitta bread, humous, taramassalata, seafood salad, crab salad, potato salad, aubergine dip, tzatziki, butter beans, feta cheese parcels, beetroot salad, greek salad, stuffed vine leaves, pork souvlaki, marinated chicken, lamb chops, calamari, whitebait, (probably still missed somethings off) all for £18. For that price I can put up with crab sticks instead of fresh crab, many places would charge £18 just for a main course. Im surprised they didnt moan about the lack of caviar too....
I would have rated Konaki 10 out of 10 apart from the lack of music and the fact that they ordered us a mini cab which charged us more than double the price a black cab did for the same journey. Be warned! walk a few yards up the street and flag a cab from the main road.
Yes, I'm sure you can get better quality greek food in London somewhere, but if you want a gut busting Greek feast at a very reasonable price, I'd definately go back to Konaki.

An excellent restaurant which I frequent on almost every trip into London, all the staff are extremely friendly, but most importantly the food and wine are excellent. I have yet to find anything on the menu I would not recommend.
In summer the outdoor tables are excellent for a relaxed and chilled out dinner. I frequently take colleagues and business partners to this restaurant and they have yet to be disappointed.

took my partner ( who lives in liverpool ) to konaki on friday night.
had been telling him all about the restaurant and looking forward to it all week after a recomendation from an old work colleauge.
as we entered we were sat right at the back in a very narrow part of the restuarant and almost had the same elbow room as being on a plane.
ordered the meze, very mediocre, a variety of dips and pitta bread, a 'greek' salad with very un authentic'feta' cheese ( tasted very wet and like cheap substitute ).
followed by a strange oily salad with a few strands of tasteless 'crab stick'
the piece of greek sausage was tasty as was a piece of kekbab style meat, then the fresh calamri was the only part of the meal we really enjoyed.
we had began to lose interest in the meal before being given the last course of grilled meat..
the chicken tasted dry and rubbery as though it had been cooked and put in a microwave and the rest of the meat was dry and bland.
we both left the chicken in fear of making us ill.
we had 2 bottles of wine at £15 and the meze was listed at £18 each, my calculation would be £66 ( plus a normal 12.5 % service charge ) would end at around £75, however the bill was £82 with no mention of service charge, only £7 or so on top of what we should have paid, but felt 'ripped off' from a very un-inspiring meal.
i certainly would not go back and felt embarrassed and awkward for taking my partner there after giving konaki such a glowing build up.
a damp squib food wise, but the enjoyable santorini wine made up for the dissapointing cuisine.

Quite a flash back to 80s dining.
Slightly faded interior, menu of traditional Greek fare, of which the Tzatiki & Lamb slouvaki I had actually tasted pretty good but my dining companion said the lamb meatball starter was oily and not good.
Average service with very lack lusture cusinue.
You can do better than this in London!

My wife and I consider the Konaki Restaurant to be our favourite in London. We have been several times and find many reasons to want to go back again and again. It is easy to get to and easy to find, easy to meet friends at too, because it has a website with a map reference. The food, the background music and the staff there are all warm friendly and certainly all Greek, so a visit to Konaki's somehow always leaves us feeling like we have just come back from a holiday Taverna. The menu contains good traditional Greek food and we recommend the meze. But be warned that the portions are so generous as to be impossible to eat, unless perhaps you have the girth of a sumo wrestler! :)
