My passport is due for renewal in july.I have been trying to get an appointment for a month. I go on line and as soon as a date appears it is fully booked, how can that happen,at 11pm I am ready to book. How do people book before me,there must be a back door .I am very frustrated by this system. Is there any other way, this is a joke.I think the only way is to go there without an appointment and and make my point.
The system for renewing passports with the on line booking system appears a good idea.
But in true Italian beurocratic fashion a 9 week window has been set which is continually fully booked. The new one day which opens at midnight each day is never available for booking online as it is clearly fully booked by the back door.
The system has clearly been set up to appear to limit the waiting period to 9 weeks rather than the one year that it probably is. It seems to me that the only way to renew your passport is to grease somebody palms, have you got their telephone number PLEASE!!!!!!
I made the mistake of getting my appt date mixed up. I arrived on thenwrong date and I was told to come a week later. The following week, I arrived and was attended to by very competent staff. I do not speak Italian very well but they were happy to deal with me in English. They registered me on the London AIRE and proceeded to issue me with my passport on that very day. I think as long as you have all the documents, info and photos you need, visiting the Italian Consulate will be effortless. Thank you to the staff thatmhelped me today. What a weight off my shoulders.
Replace the staff with competent polite effient staff who are targeted to work and meet targets as well as showing empathy with the clients. Thank goodness I and my son are UK Passport holders. My husband had to waste so much time and money obtaining a new passport travelling from Nottingham. His very very elderly parents both need renewing. I have even had trouble booking an appointment. Today I used a slot media availability??? Any ideas what this means???
I wish I never had to go there... Even after calling them and waiting over 33 minutes all I can hear is: "All you need you can find on our website". So why do I loose half a day to contact you? Because I can't read or because you're very unclear with informations you put on your website??? Bunch of lazy ignorants!
Kafka in Belgravia
This place is a bureaucratic nightmare came true: apart from non-existent queuing procedure, rude staff, cramped premises and a general feeling of sloppiness, surely the payment system counts as one of the stupidest achievements of Western civilization. There is a cashier, where you can pay in cash only, being cards still beyond the grasp of Italian civil servants, but apparently they can't even take cash for most things, therefore you must go to the nearest Post Office about a mile away, and buy a sort of cheque called "Postal Order", paying a princely 12.5% cut for the service, on top of your due.
From my rough calculations, Italians in UK pay around a million pounds in commissions to Royal Mail every year, for the privilege of having to walk two miles back and forth, to the Post Office down the road.
Every single time I visit this place I get headaches as the frustration of dealing with such unhelpful and inept staff who as paid civil servants ought to be working for us, not the reverse. Information is contradicted, both in person and online and if you try to question what has (or hasn't) been done, you get a shoulder shrug and 'someone else made a mistake' - and the burden of proof is placed upon you to rectify it their errors, I wonder why they bother to employ staff at all.
If you can, get a British passport.
I am dreading renewing my children s passports. I have horrible memories of spending the whole day standing in some corner as there's hardly a queuing system in place, that could cater to the vast amount of people that go through their doors. You take a ticket like you would at the deli in your local supermarket and then proceed to hang around for half a day, this is bad enough for an adult - Try doing it with three young kids! Why isn't there a system that actually helps people to resolve their needs. I find the staff aloof, and a bit arrogant to say the least. I'd like to see a sub- consulate closer to home rather then traveling into Central London.
Lord help me it's gonna be a loooong day :/
The thing that I don,t understand is why the Italian passport is only valid for the EEC communities & have to spend more money, time etc, to have it authorised for a year for all countries recognised by the Italian government.
Surely in this age lots more people travel outside of the EEC.Would it not make more sense to do it for all countries & pay the cost just the once, after all the British Passport is done this way.
I am proud to be Italian & even though I have lived here in England for over 40 years
I do not want to lose my identity & apply for a British Passport.
Please, please do something about this.Because i know a lot of people who have applied for a British Passport just for this reason alone.
Apart from this I have never found the Staff rude, mayby a little arrogant ..but i suppose this is part of the job..
Name: Mrs E Mariconda
Disgusting, its like banging your head agaist a brick wall.
I wish that i could get a job in the Consulate as I know that I would want to help my fellow Italians sort out any problems or concerns as I have been trained in customer service and it's also common courtesey good manners.
Please ITALIAN CONSULATE, make us all be glad to be Italian NOT Embarrassed.
Name: ann onomus
absolutely disgusting..and to think we pay these people such a lot of money and it all comes out of our pockets..they ought to think about it! What's the use of having an italian embassy abroad when you go there, they say "come back another day" it's closed! How stressed can they be? So remember, if you have a problem, please be sure it's at opening hours and hopefully not at 12.05 on a Friday else until the following Monday morning you will be stuck!
Maybe they should go and work on the road and see what it is like to be hard workers!
I am ashamed of them!
I havent even rang the italian consulate in london yet and im dreading it, imdue to get married in italy soon and im collecting my notice of marriage today and it needs to go down there to get stamped, so i can get married but afta reading the comments i cant beieve how rude the embassy is they r supposed to help people not freeze them out i think they all need re trained in there jobs or someone should take this further.
i am italian and so embarrased about the service the italian consulate provides. The personnel don t invite you in for questions, don t answer the phone, don t know what you are talking about and are very rude for no reason.
If it were closed or shut down it would be probably better.
Staff seriously need to be re-trained on manners.
It seems that they dont want to replay to people neither to the phone nor to the face-to-face. What we should do ? It's very disappointing if you consider that nowaday all systems are updated. In other modern systems from applying the citizenship to have the passport it can last at maximum 6 months!Come on people make your self proud of your country, proove that you are a great country, show that you can do it.
Italian bureaucracy is like a tortoise. The Italian Consulate in London is the same. I was forced to leave a bag of very expensive camera and computer equipment in the entrance because no large bags are allowed in now. I asked for a cloak room and was told to go to Victoria station. It's appalling. I've been there several times and each time is infuriating and a waste of time. Go only if you desperately need to.
I am disappointed and surprised to read such bad reviews about the service provided by the Italian consulate. Surprised because when my children applied for Italian citizenship 8 years ago, they had to spend practically all day at the Italian consulate in London where they were sent from pillar to post and didn't achieve their objective but had to return on another day to complete the formalities. Some of the Consular staff didn't know the information they were supposed to, or chose not to tell?
It is now my turn and that of my children to renew our passports. The Bedford Vice-Consulate has been shut down. Does that mean we have to go to London and waste perhaps a whole day for such a simple procedure? I hope not.
Please Consular employees, try and make the life of Italian citizens in Britain a little easier when they either contact you or come to see you. It is a well known fact that coming to the Italian Consulate is an experience no one wants to try out if given the choice.
The Italian Consulate do not seem to have a system in place where queries are dealt with efficiently and where staff are not rude and are able to deal with telephone enquiries politely, giving the customers the answers they require.
They certainly need to update their system and provide a much more efficient service. The telephones and e-mails are never answered. When you ask to be put through to the passport dept, for example, you are left waiting on hold for indeed a very long time.
Come on Italian Consulate, try and update yourselves - this is 2010 ! not 1970!
The service if so bad!, as well on the phone!. They ask you to hold on (on the phone) at about 25 min. and yet, after 35/ 40 min. you still waiting, and never get the a answer that you need. So the customer (only) choice is to waist a day to go to the office (Italian Consulate) to ask and information, possibly to re-new your Passport or ID card. all this it reminds me in the 80'... in Italy the kind of Bureaucratic service.... and after 30 years it still there!!!!.
They say! go to "www.....", but what If I don't have the internet?, the answer was "write a letter. and we will reply" to. I wonder all this would take?????
