About The Olympic Park
The Olympic Park in London is a new sporting complex to be built in Stratford (East London) specifically for the Olympic Games 2012. However, even after the games, the site will become the focal point of sporting, cultural and music events for years to come. The final design of the park was approved in 2007 with construction starting May 2008. It is now due for completion is scheduled for 2011 in plenty of time to allow for testing of all the facilities prior to 2012 when 180,000 a day are expected to visit the park during the Olympic Games. In addition to the 80,000 capacity Olympic Stadium, the Olympic Park will also be the location for the Aquatics Centre, Velodrome and BMX Circuit, as well as Fencing, Handball, Hockey and Basketball arenas. All of these have been designed and placed so that they are easily accessible for all visitors via the extensive network of footbridges and walkways which run through the complex. The journey to the Park itself should also be straightforward with the constuction of the brand new Stratford International Station within the Park.
