Drink in a tiki bar without the airfare

Oh how we all dream of escaping to the utopia of a Pacific island, with nothing to disturb us other than the sounds of gently crashing waves and wind blowing through the fronds of palm trees. Of course there is more to Tiki culture than sun-laden beaches: there are rum-based cocktails, Asian-inspired dishes, and more bamboo than you can shake a stick at (sorry).

Luckily you can experience all of this without having to board a plane right here in the capital. One of our favourite Tiki bars is Trader Vic’s, named after the original Polynesian venue opened in California in 1937. What’s more, they’ve recently added a film club to their winning repertoire of Mai Tais Chinese wood-fired bites.
