Where: London Regatta Centre
Move over Henley Regatta, the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival provides far more colour than salmon pink trousers ever could. The Chinese event goes back thousands of years, with people racing boats adorned with spectacular dragon’s heads on the prow to mark the start of summer.
London has its very own edition at the Docklands, but you can actually take up racing these wonderful vessels at any time of the year. It’s a sociable sport during which you can burn up to a thousand calories per 90 minute session, and you’ll sound really cool when you’re telling work colleagues about your latest dragon boat racing sesh over the watercooler.
