Van Kahn Gallery will be presenting “Bodyworks”,
a solo exhibition by art student Silja Hinriksdóttir commencing 26th – 27th April 2013.

Silja, who currently studies at Camberwell College of Arts London, will be showcasing a series of her recent work. The exhibition will be free admission and open to the public.

[ABOUT THE ARTIST]
Originally born and raised in Iceland, Silja Hinriksdóttir currently lives in London and has been studying at Camberwell Collage of the Arts (London) for the past 3 years. “Bodyworks” will exclusively be Silja’s first solo exhibition in London following her solo exhibition in Reykjavik, Iceland (2012). More recently, Silja also featured in group exhibitions, such as ‘She is’ a collective art show for Women’s Aid Foundation at the Electric House, London and a group exhibition with fellow art students at Shoreditch Town Hall.

[ABOUT THE EXHIBITION]
“Bodyworks” is an expression of how women are portrayed in the media in today’s society and how we are bombarded with an image of the perfect objectified woman; playing on the aspect of the decorative. The collection of work also explores Silja’s own experience growing up as a woman and understanding self-acceptance. Silja adopts an experimental technique of creating her paintings by using her own body as a tool to paint with, either by printing it onto the canvas or by using it to remove paint off the canvas -leaving a pattern of removed paint. Although the paintings are created with something so familiar the result can often be quite abstract.
