Co-Opera Co. was recently described in the press as “........ a revolutionary opera company whose values are firmly rooted in the time-honoured, traditional values of a good, old-fashioned, hands-on Apprenticeship” and “ …....... a ground breaking opera company helping to nurture the operatic stars of the future through a pioneering series of inspiring and exciting operatic productions.”
Their first UK tour in 2010 brought Co-Opera Co. great critical acclaim both in the national press and from audience members for their innovative productions of La Boheme and The Marriage of Figaro. 2011 saw 25 performances of Carmen and The Magic Flute and in 2012 the company added new productions of Hansel and Gretel and Don Giovanni to their critically acclaimed Magic Flute for their biggest UK tour to date.

Co-Opera Co. are proud to be opening their 2013 UK Tour at
The Hackney Empire
with Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado

Accompanied by the Co-Opera Co. Orchestra.

The Mikado

There's too much hanky panky going on in the town of Titipu and The Mikado is not happy! After all flirting is against the law and punishable by beheading!
Heads must roll!

Get ready to meet the three little maids fresh from school and The Lord High Executioner Ko-Ko, the frightful Katisha, the simply gorgeous Yum Yum, and the poor love struck Nanki Poo plus a host of other wonderful characters created by that master of comedy William S Gilbert. Add Sir Arthur Sullivan into the mix and it is no wonder that their gloriously funny Japanese fantasy has become the world's favourite Gilbert and Sullivan opera.

Making sure that the punishments do fit the crimes – complete with boiling in oil, beheading and burial alive - Director James Bonas brings this joyful romp to life in his wickedly funny production.
Rest assured you will be charmed from the moment the curtain goes up and humming the tunes for ages afterwards.

Co-Opera Co. can promise you an evening filled with marvellous music, sung and played by a young and vibrant company whose sole aim is to enchant, enthral and entertain their audiences.

In the words of the critic George Hall from Opera Now...........
“Whether you are an incurable opera lover or an innocent opera virgin – Co-Opera Co. has something for you – a fresh, youthful take on beloved operatic gems.”

Some messages from audience members..................

“I am rarely moved to get in touch with a company but I just wanted to congratulate everyone involved in the wonderful, magical production of "The Magic Flute" It was a brilliant theatrical experience - beautiful singing and marvellous music, direction and staging thank you so much for a really memorable and uplifting evening.
I look forward to your future productions .”
Wilton's Music Hall, London

“Saw Magic Flute last night – brilliant! It was, quite simply, the most creative, imaginative and 'fresh' production I have ever seen and my husband and I both went home buzzing with delight. What amazing careers those young people have ahead of them! We absolutely loved it!”The Apex Bury St Edmunds

“I just felt I needed to write and thank your company for an evening of superb singing, the like of which I doubt we shall hear again for many years. All the cast gave such wonderful renditions that all I can say is FANTASTIC. I am pleased I brought my family and four other friends, as they experienced something truly magical. Well done!“ The Pomegranate Theatre Chesterfield

“I felt I had to write to say how very much I enjoyed your recent visit to the Grand Theatre in Blackpool. I was so impressed by both Carmen and The Magic Flute; the quality of the singing was quite simply outstanding and the staging and sets quite superb. I find it hard to believe that an orchestra of just 15 musicians was able to produce such a wonderful full sound and the palpable enthusiasm, both on stage and in the pit was totally infectious – Thank you so much – we look forward to seeing your company again – soon” The Grand Theatre Blackpool

“Dear Co-Opera-Co.,
Your company recently came to Yeovil in Somerset and performed the Magic Flute. It was a super production ,the cast and the orchestra did a fantastic job and my husband and I and our 18yr old son really enjoyed the whole performance.
Do you have any plans to perform the Don Giovanni production with David Milner Pearce, in Yeovil or the South West of England. We would be interested in seeing more productions that your company perform.” The Octagon Yeovil
